On Feb 20, 2015 I ordered a Technicolor TC8305C Telephony modem from ownyourownmodem.com so I would not have to rent one from Comcast. I received it in a couple of days. I had it up and running in no time. When I took the Comcast rental the service rep asked me what I was using and if I was sure it would work. I told the rep it was the same model as the one I was returning. She asked me if it had the Xfinity on it , and I told her it did. She said if it had the logo on it, it was property of Comcast and they do not sell their equiptment. ( I found out that Best Buy sells a modem on line that will work with my Comcast equiptment but it has wireless range issues and it has the Xfinity logo on it) The rep said she would foward this to her higher ups. In the mean time I provided her with the MAC address and the serial number of my modem which she confirmed to be registered to a account in Georgia. Since then I have been contacted by Comcast security and he wants me to return it. I emailed the ownyourownmodem help desk and explained the situation. Aaron Kocherhans replied , " It's not your job to prove to them that is not stolen ,it is their job to verify that they have any rights to it of which they don't." Since all this happened , I have been looking on the web to see if anyone else has had this problem. I of course have found many, one of which was you. You said in your article that you had filed complaints with many agencies. I didn't see an update. I would like to know if any of them acted on your complaint . I also saw online that there are complaints against them since at least since 2011. How can they continue to stay in business? I would appreciate any help or guidance.

VERY SERIOUS ACCUSATION FOR SO LITTLE PROOF!

AUTHOR: Legal Notice - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, December 09, 2017

The complainer first starts out by saying that he purchased a modem from a company name ownyourownmodem.com.  Upon going to this website one will find that this web URL does not even exist!  Next, complainer continues to say that he purchased a modem and that " I received it in a couple of days. I had it up and running in no time."  For those who don't know, in order to get a modem "up and running in no time", one must provide the serial number to the provider and register it to which the Comcast rep who is attempting to activate the modem in order for them to activate it.  This person did this and the serial number showed no sings of issues and certainly would have upon being entered in if there was an issue.

The complainer next claims that, "When I took the Comcast rental the service rep asked me what I was using and if I was sure it would work. I told the rep it was the same model as the one I was returning. She asked me if it had the Xfinity on it , and I told her it did. She said if it had the logo on it, it was property of Comcast and they do not sell their equiptment."  The comcast rep did not ask for the serial info before making such a claim??   The complainer then found out that Xfinity does indeed sell their own equipment with the "Xfinity" logo on it at local Best Buy stores verifying that the info the rep gave him was a lie, or at best, false.

The complainer then states, "The rep said she would foward this to her higher ups. In the mean time I provided her with the MAC address and the serial number of my modem which she confirmed to be registered to a account in Georgia."   Well now how could this model be registered to an account in GA if the complainer starts his complaint by saing tha he installed the modem (which required registration) and had the modem "up and running in no time" on his own account?

Since then the complainer stated, "Since then I have been contacted by Comcast security and he wants me to return it".  Who is he???  Why was this document from "Comcast security" not provided in the complaint as this is a pretty big piece to not include???

I emailed the ownyourownmodem help desk and explained the situation. Aaron Kocherhans replied , " It's not your job to prove to them that is not stolen ,it is their job to verify that they have any rights to it of which they don't."  Before you through this individual (Aaron) under the bus for such a claim then please provide any such statement that was made by this individual when you claim you emailed a business URL that does not even exist??

Since the date that this compaint was originally provided,  we come to find out that the FCC received a letter from several senators complaining to the FCC that Comcast had been billing and claiming equipment to be their property when it fact it was not the case.  (PLEASE SEE LINK)

https://consumermediallc.files.wordpress.com/2016/02/wydenletter.pdf

This later caused the FCC to investigate and eventually issue a fine against Comcast for this very false business practice.  (see link below).  So before the complainer goes out and throws individuals names under the bus with nothing to show for it (except for what he already knew was not a truthful source after he himself found part of what he was told was not true) then he better provide better proof or else he himself stand in liability for a libel lawsuit.
