On Saturday 10/10/09 at 4:52pm I went to the payless shoesource in Englewood NJ to purchase a pair of shoes for my son.  Like most 9 year olds the last place he wants to be is out shopping with me.  I purchased a pair of 6 1/2 black dress shoes for him

Retail Price 29.99

I had a coupon for $5 off.  I used the coupon and paid a total of 24.99.

When I got home my son said the shoes were to tight so we went back to the store to make an even excahnge for a larger pair of shoes.  At 7:07pm I selected a similar pair not the same because we could not find them on the shelf, and went to the register to make the excahnge.

The new pair I selected was 29.99 as well, The sales associate informend me I had to pay more.  I asked her why she said because I no longer had the coupon to use.

It is on the same day I want to exchange to get a pair a half size larger I do not see why I would have to pay more. It is the practise of Payless Shoesource the sales associates told me never to void a sale once you leave the store so she could not return the coupon to me for an EXCHANGE!!!!

I expalined to the sales associate that COMMON SENSE CUSTOMER SERVICE should be applied in this situation.  She refused so I returned the shoes and left the store without my COUPON and without NEW SHOES for my son!!!!!!

I have worked for payless and I know that no matter what anyone else says, Customer Service is their number 1 prioroty and making you happy should have been what she did. I also know that their target customer is mothers and kids, because, and all payless employees know this from SAU class "once a payless shopper, always a payless shopper". Im my store we do a simple price adjustment, make a copy of the receipt and make a note on the bottom of the receipt. I think that the employee was having a bad day and I am sorry it worked out the way it did. Try another Payless somewhere else and im almost positive it will be better. Have a good day...

I totally understand your problem.  But, once you use that coupon, it is in the system.  We have to have the coupon in our nightly paperwork when we are audited.  If a coupon is missing, someone who really needed their job would have lost it.  Would you do something against policy of a company you work for?  No, because you would be canned as fast as you were hired.  I always tell my customers when they are using a coupon to make sure the shoes fit because when they come back to exchange or return the shoes they will only get back what the spent on the shoes.  It makes sence.  Since your child was with you on that day, it would have been a good idea to try the shoes on him before making a purchase.  I understand that he is not a shopper but I have ran into a lot of children who arent.  We still suggest to measure the childs foot as soon as they walk through the door to make it as quick and painless as possible.

I'm not picking on you at all.  I know when you dont work retail yourself, its hard to understand all the Corp. rules.
