Googled "ASUS Support" to try and contact ASUS about my new laptop. Wanted to re-load my original system OS from a system image disc. The person answered the phone, was a terrible VOIP connection. Different then the other times I called "real" ASUS. I couldnt understand the accent. I had to keep repeating myself. She did not listen to what I needed and was focused on connecting to my computer and checking out my system. She said I had 12,000 errors and that my csrss.exe file had a virus and I must clean it off. I told her "I dont care about any viruses, I just want to reload the OS and needed to know what key to press when I power up". She told me I cannot load anything until the virus is taken care of. That is a lie. Reformatting will clean ALL viruses off the hard drive. I immediately began to suspect things with this person we not correct. I was told that since I was not using any Anti-Virus my system was compromised. That was another lie. I HAVE anti virus software, but when she went through my "START" menu and "PROGRAMS" she didnt see it because its not there. Now I knew I was dealing with a scamming company. I asked multiple times how I oload the systems image and she said "Sir, if you do not take care of the csrss.exe problem, than all my bank info and personel info is at risk. It is very dangerous and only a technician can repair it. I can NOT load system default OS or Windows 7 withouth fixing this problem first". Another lie. I finally said "Ok, how do I fix the problem?". She replied "We have a cerified Microsoft Technician here I can transfer you to who can repair the computer". "No problem I said, will it cost me anything?" She said "yes". I told her no. I am not going to pay, I will take care of this myself. I hung up. Re-searched "ASUS Support" again and got the real company. They told me to "turn on my computer, hit F9 repeatedly, then follow the promt". 2 minutes later, my computer was loading system OS back to original. Computer works fine. Problem was with a driver for my video card. Was only having an error with windows resolution and since it was new and I didnt have any software on it I reloaded the factory settings. I had NO viruses confirmed by my Norton Anti virus 2012 that I bought WITH the computer that she couldnt see.
If ANYONE tells you you cannot format and reload windows until you pay them to remove a virus...hang up the phone. If they are VOIP and from a foreign country....make SURE you do not give them any bank info until you confirm from an independent source who they are.
Now after seeing all the "rebuttals" from this company, I suspect they will just reply back with the same exact response as the others. I have given NO personal information. Time. Date. So when they say they searched and found no info on my case that will be the only true statement they would have made.
