I called them after I received a letter from them on 2/27/18 stating I owed $380.80 for a Civil Traffic Violation involving a red light cam violation. The date of the violation was listed as 4/19/2016. The letter stated that my driver's license was suspended due to non-payment of this citation. I am the registered owner of two vehicles and needed to know which vehicle it was for since my child drives one of them regularly.

When I called the number on the letter (800-900-1380), I spoke with a rep who called herself Debra. I asked for the make and model of the vehicle being cited. She didn't have the information. I asked for the street location of the red light cam. She didn't have the information. When I told her that I would call the County Clerk of the Circuit Court, she immediately advised that I NOT call them since they will only refer me back to them for answers. I told her that she didn't have the answers I needed. After a brief hold, she returned to the line with a plate number. It was  plate number that I had on my child's car when we lived in NJ. We are now in Florida. At the time, I was happy to at least know WHICH car the citation was for so I assumed my child owed this citation and I had her go online to make the payment since it said my driver's license was suspended. After she made the payment, I was worried about my driver's license. I went online to check the status of my license and found it said valid. I thought that was weird. I thought nothing of it.

Today, my child calls me to ask if Penn Credit was a scam company. My heart sank. I asked why she was asking. I got no reply, so I quickly went online and searched. BAM! So many others were reporting similar stories about them. I called the bank and LUCKILY, my kid didn't have money in the account to cover the $380.80 so the bank declined the payment. The proceeded to file a dispute, cancel and reissue the debit card.

I have tried to call the County Clerk of the Circuit Court and have not been able to reach anyone. I truly believe this is a scam. Why would there be an outstanding ticket from almost 2 years ago and I've never received an initial letter/citation, no subsequent letters AND my license has never been suspended? I AM SO LIVID, but I am relieved that the payment for almost $400 did NOT get processed. BEWARE PEOPLE. This letter looks very legitimate.
