Perma-Treat of Portland, Owners Jim & Marla Toma They Power washed and applied a 15 year guaranteed Sealer on our Patio pavers. This ended up severely spotting them. They refuse to correct the problem. We had two other professionals look at the issue and both said the pavers need to be replaced. The least expensive quote we got for replacement is $12,250.00. Perma-Treat of Portland pressure washed our patio pavers and applied a 15 year guaranteed sealer on them. Upon completion the pavers were severly spotted. We were told that the spots would go away in a couple of days. Six months later we still have the spot as dark as ever.
We called and the owner Jim Toma came over to inspect the problem. He said he was shocked and had never seen this problem before, which wasn't true! We went online and found that he had the same problem on a driveway in the past. After blaming everyone else including the original installer and even us he started saying that the spots would go away on their own possibly in a few months and as the conversation continued the timing gradually extended to possible 3 years. We asked if he would guarantee the spots would go away and he refused to.
This obviously wasn't OK with us. His 15 year warranty wasn't even good for a week! We asked two reputable landscape companies to inspect the problem and come up with a fix. Both of them said that all of the paver would have to be replaced. The manufacturer of the pavers stopped by to see if he could solve the problem. He tried but it didn't help. We got bids and the least expensive one was $12,250. Perma-Treat has refused to pay for the fix.
Their insurance company sent over a commercial pressure washer to see if it would remove the spots, It did lighten some of the the spots, but didn't completely remove any of them.
We want our pavers replaced as it is the only solution to fix this problem!

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company
Response to patio sealer
AUTHOR: Jim - (United States)
SUBMITTED: Monday, February 12, 2018
First of all Marla Toma is not an owner of Perma Treat. This customer is not telling the whole story. They called us out to clean and seal their pavers, we went out and cleaned the pavers, and they wanted to bring out the color of their pavers, so wanted an enhancer applied. What they did not tell us is that they had at one time applied a sealer, and when we put the enhancer on the pavers it reacted with the sealer that they had applied. They then filed a claim with our insurance company, who in turn sent somebody out that told them it could be stripped off. The enhancer is not a permanent product and will eventually wear off. The insurance company would have paid to have this done, but they said they didn't want it done. They then filed a complaint the the CCB, which we responded to. The CCB asked them what they wanted, first they said it was going to cost $12,000.00, then they said they would settle for $5000.00, then they said they would settle for $3800.00. We had only charged them $1100.00 in the first place. They eventually settled for $900.00. So if you ask me they were the ones trying to rip my company off. Other companies should be aware of these consumers. We have been in business for 12 plus years and have thousands of happy customers. These people have now gone all over the internet posting these comments about the company.

First of all Marla Toma is not one of the owners of Perma treat. What this consumer is not saying is that when Jim went out to give them an estimate on sealing their pavers, they neglected to inform us that they had already applied a sealer. They wanted us to bring out the colors of their pavers so we applied an enhancer, which reacted to the sealer that they had applied. This enhance is not a permanent product and will eventually wear off. They filed a claim with our insurance company, who sent somebody out to look at the situation and they were told that it could be stripped off and the problem would be resolved. They did not want to have that done, so then they filed a complaint with the CCB and we respond to that complaint. We had only charged them $1100.00, but they were insisting that the pavers need to be replaced to the tune of $12,000.00. The CCB asked them what they wanted to settle, they first said $5000.00, then they said $3800.00, then they said they would settle for $900.00 I think they were trying to rip us off. And since then they have gone all over the internet to trash our name and company. Other companies should be aware of these consumers.
