I am an abused, disabled, single woman living alone in a motel room having been unlawfully discharged from a nursing home in Oregon. I receive disability as my source of income. I first contacted PrePaid Legal on/about October 2, 2010 regarding two specific very serious legal matters I needed legal representation on. I had completed an online form for what I thought was to contact a viable attorney but later learned after a man named John Daniels contacted me, that it was PrePaid legal instead. Mr. Daniels contacted me via email stating "Kim, I was unable to reach you by phone. You have a very strong case against both Pinnacle and the hotel. Please contact me at 505-610-1856. Any time, John Daniels PPL".
I phoned Mr. Daniels back this same day and we spoke. I relayed to him in detail two legal matters that I needed representation on, advised him of my disability, and among other things, informed him about my source of income. He told me that a very large, reputable law firm would be contacting me soon, and not to worry that the firm would take my cases pro-bono or on a contingency basis. He went into with me how his family member was abused and damaged by a nursing home as I was and that I would get immediate legal representation. He later stated that I would only have to pay 25% of the whole of legal fees if I had to pay anything at all. When I questioned what he had stated earlier about his statement that would not have to pay anything at all, he stated well if I had to pay anything at all that it would only be 25% of the whole of the legal costs. He again stated to me that my cases were very good, very strong there would be no problem with representation pro-bono or contingency.
I later learned after no law firm contacted me, that I had to contact the law firm myself and I did. I also learned that everything, including emails sent to me by Mr. Daniels, was a lie. He only told me and emailed me what he thought I needed to hear and read in order to get me to sign up for the services. Now I sit here in a non-accommodating-for-the-disabled and no attorney has been appointed to my cases, and no lawsuits filed on my behalf. Only one attorney from the firm has contacted me but none of the promises made to me by John Daniels has ever come to pass. It has been now nearly a month and still no attorney has contacted me to proceed with any lawsuits against the two companies on my behalf.
This has forced me to question the law firm in Oregon who was to be handling and/or appointing counsel for me. I have relayed the promises and conversations/correspondence between Mr. Daniels and me, but the law firm will not honor it. I have several emails from Mr. Daniels, that I contacted and read to the corporate office in Ada, Oklahoma and the complaint division seemed interested in what I had to say, even a gast at certain times to learn of Mr. Daniels' deceit, but I was not ever compensated for the lies and misleading business practices of their agent, Mr. Daniels.
I was told last Wednesday (Oct. 20) by a woman at the law firm during a phone conversation, that I had one more day before I would be contacted by an attorney to take both cases and file suit. She said an attorney would be contacting me the next day, Oct. 21., but no call came; no call came the next day either. Today is Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2010 and still no call; no representing attorney. I have administrative hearings upcoming that I have had to seek re-scheduling on now awaiting an attorney to appear for me as I am tired of getting the railroad and do not know law as an attorney would, but still no attorney for representation.
I have contacted a law firm in Oklahoma that sued PrePaid Legal in 2003 I believe, and I have remitted to that law firm the emails I received from Mr. Daniels, and the issues I face with PrePaid Legal, but I have yet for that law firm to contact me back. If anyone knows of an attorney firm who will go after PrePaid Legal, please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience.
Like others in America and also on this forum (Janet of Johnson City, Tennessee), I feel that I was taken advantage of by PrePaid Legal and their agent, given information that has proven to false in nature and though I paid my membership up front fee, I have received nothing for my buck. It's not just about paying for the services, but what was misrepresented to me that I found not to be true at all. I am very humiliated and am suffering greatly from anxiety, extreme emotional distress, sleep deprivation, anger and anguish, and I just feel that the agent played on my grief and state of necessity promising me services that he knew were not true. This much is shown in other emails he sent to me advising me to deceive the law firm that I spoke to if they asked certain questions. I am very humiliated and feel victimized, violated now three times.
I truly am in need of an attorney to go after PrePaid Legal Services, Inc. to bring justice to me for their fraud, and deceptive business practices, but to also be compensated for punitive and other related damages I have suffered.
Beware of PrePaid Legal. I now believe that it is a huge hoax, a huge fraud that plays on the depressed and hardshipped emotions of those truly suffering as myself, telling and writing to you what they think you need to hear, i.e., to get you to sign up and pay a fee for services that you [or me] will never receive.

#2 UPDATE Employee
So sorry that was your experience

Let me just say that I'm sorry for the experience you had to go through. being disabled and having to go through that is a terrible thing. As an independent associate of Prepaid Legal and as a family man, I would just like to come to the defense of Prepaid Legal Services.
Even some of the best companies in the United States, you will find at times some people who have bad experiences. Sometimes it's the company's fault, sometimes it's someone who represents the company. I have yet to see any company or any person that has a perfect flawless record. Everyone falls short at times. Even Great Companies!
If you look at all the success stories that Prepaid Legal services has regarding all the people and families they have helped over the past 35 years, it's quite impressive. Compare that with the complaints they have had and i'm sure the success stories will out do the complaints. I have personally used this valuable membership and the attorney's have helped me many times. i can't even imagine calling an outside attorney that would charge me $200.00 an hour.
People today need help with lifes problems and all of us are priced out of the legal system so where are they to turn? Prepaid Legal has been coming to the rescue for close to 40 years. The cost less than a dollar a day for quality advise and assistance from an attorney is not only well worth it, it's also a no brainer. Those who complain about this extraordinary service really are out of line. I would rather cancel my car insurance & health insurance before I cancel my Prepaid Legal Plan. Again, I just want to say Im sorry for your bad experience.

Of course they are a scam

If you really want to take them down get the state attorney general involved. This company has lost a number of cases from Wyoming to Missouri and Mississippi. We also dedicated a website that screws up their sales. We are currently creating a online store when someone purchases our products we tell them about this company that has swindled a lot of money out of honest people. I resigned as an independent associate after my upline found a loophole in the company. They are corrupt and will be stopped.
