Before taking a cruise you should ask to take a look at the CREW QUARTERS   .

A cruise ship is no safer or cleaner than the worst area of the ship. The worst area of the ship is usually where airborne diseases originate.

Having been a crew member myself (musician) I can only list what I have seen:

 poor maintainance of all water drains resulting in toilet overflows; shower drains filled with body and lotion grease- resulting in overflows; loose deck boards (safety hazard); no maintainance of laundry room washing machines- resulting in broken hoses and 6 INCHES OF WATER IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM. (The laundry rooms often do not have floor drains); combustables (paper and lint) piled up behind washing machines and dryers; water fountains leaking water all over carpeting and wood deck floors creating a tripping hazard. Other items TNTM.

This applies to ALL cruise ships. One company can have a number of ships- each with a different crew and maintainance staff.

The best thing to do is to report here the name of the ship, then the CAPTAIN in charge of the ship. He alone is responsible for the condition of the ship.

I would encourage crew members to provide input on this message board. They are the ones who see the worst on any ship.
