When I checked my balance, I found a $19.95 charge to my checking account. My bank told me to call them directly and ask for the charge to be removed. I called 877-993-6264. I found out that "they had offered the membership to me when I joined Classmates.com" -- that is not true. I never agreed to this membership. They are removing the charge from my account, but I am now having my bankcard cancelled and reissued so that no one else can get my number.

Unfortunately - if you did sign up for classmates.com

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 20, 2008

You did sign up - because you failed to notice that they were offering that program as part of the sign-up process.

They are required to disclose this, however it is usually with completing a survey, money off your current order - or small print with a pre-checked check box that you missed.

It is absolutely imperative that you PAY attention to all messages when doing any online shopping to avoid this.

Also - always contact the retailer and tell them to STOP allowing the sign-up process as part of the ordering process- its one thing to allow them to adverstise only - its another thing altogether to make signing up an ordering process requirement.

Complain to the FTC as well
