Public Moving Services Rip Off Moving Firm Charlotte North Carolina
*Consumer Comment: Moving scam
This firm provided us with an estimate of $3,555 to move our household goods, so we agreed and made a down payment of $850. On moving day they reviewed our household goods and revised the cost to $11,500, an increase of 324%!! We refused to allow them to load up our goods and they have refused to refund our down payment of $850. I believe they provided us with a very fraudulent estimate in order to obtain our business and our down payment and for this reason we deserve a refund of our down payment. Their personnel very rude and arrogant when we attempted to obtain a refund of our down payment.

Moving scam

Did you get the initial estimate over the phone or the web without a moving rep coming to your place and providing a specific walkthrough and contract? If so, that is the first step in an elabrate scam. You did the right thing by not letting them load your furniture and other items on the moving date.
Look up moving scams and you will see that getting the estimates over the phone or web is the first step in a well known scam where the price changes multiple times during the move - including after your furniture is on the truck. Take the company to small claims court (if you can find them). I hope you get your deposit back. Check your credit cards if you used one when making the deposit - they may try to put through another charge. Be careful.
