Must recommend not to rent from any Public Storage facility.  They have unused unethical practices such as bait and switch to luring customers.

Despite having been a perfect paying customer with no issues, they have often raised rates over 300% the rate of inflation in a 6 month period with no plausible explanation, minimal notice, and absolutely no response or assistance from customer service either at the facility nor via their phone or email.

They don't need one

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, July 05, 2018

This may be a shock but they don't need a plausible explanation as to why the rent is being increased. You being a good or bad tenant has nothing to do with this.  If you are on a "month-to-month" agreement they can change the monthly rent every month as long as they give you notice. Depending on your local laws that notice can be as short as just a few days. This is very common among a lot of storage companies, especially the larger "chain" companies.

If you want to try and put a handle on this you can look into signing a year lease. This will guarantee your rate for an entire year. Now, with the long term leases they will have penalties if you want to terminate them early. So you have to decide if you want a cheaper rate or the flexibility to vacate the unit when you want.
