As stated by PUBLISHAMERICA "First of all, you retain the copyright of your book. If you havent yet registered your book at the Library of Congress, we will provide you with the link to the forms to secure a registration. You will also retain all non-book rights, unless you instruct us otherwise. Our contracts have a limited duration, generally of seven years. Older contracts with different duration clauses can be re-negotiated at all times. Furthermore, you are always the intellectual owner of the book. No one is allowed to tamper with the text after you have made it final. Digital printing makes it technically possible to make changes to texts at any time, therefore your contract protects you against such outside tampering. You are your books creator, writer, and intellectual owner. That is why it is vital that you make your final draft indeed final, because even the intellectual owner cannot change the book once it has gone to print. Then, last but not least, you are entitled to having fun! It is important that you enjoy being a published writer. To have your book out and have other people buy and read it, is pure joy. It makes you feel proud and fulfilled. Your name and face are in the newspaper, people discuss your work and are impacted by what you wrote: all that is sheer pleasure. Enjoy it!" http://www.publishamerica.com/rights.htm#ownership First of all I didn't receive any Registration of Library of Congress, I don't even know what that is.
"The author pays no fees of any kind , at any time. We want your book, not your money." http://www.publishamerica.com/faqs.htm
Second of all I was told my book will be going through a senior editor and it determines how much editing my book will need.  When I submitted my book I asked if my book would go through a proofer, they told me to read their F.A.Q. So I did and it said the same thing so I wanted to confirm it and emailed again this time they said it was handed on to an excelent proofer. So I was like great my work is getting published yeah me!
(I already complained to them so if you read their webpage they changed it, but i believe I have the original somewhere on my computer)
Then I got my work back, they said I have two days to make sure it's good and the way I want it. Well my god there was so many mistakes I had caught that I didn't catch when I was writing/going over. I told them my book was not ready to be published. I asked them how come no one got a hold of me saying the book made no sense at this point and why didn't you change it. i was ingnored...so i asked again and again until finally I got the email that said it would cost me 50 dollars for the first five pages and extra for any page after that. IT DOESN"T SAY THIS IN THE CONTRACT.
I don't know what a proofer means to them by here a proofer means someone who goes through a piece of works and makes the changes neccacary.  They said they don't touch the book or make the changes but they could have contacted me to let me know and work with me and allowed me to make the changes and make my book the best it can be. But wait...I NEVER got told anything about my book until it went through the next process. Now above it says the author has right to their book "You are your books creator, writer, and intellectual owner. That is why it is vital that you make your final draft indeed final, because even the intellectual owner cannot change the book once it has gone to print " When I asked for my book to get changed over it hadn't gone to print yet, it went to cover design, and then all the time i told them i don't want my book published my emails were ignored until it went to print so i couldn't do anything after that.
I feel that becasue I am canadian and this publisher is based in America that i was ripped off and that they are trying to put a bad name to me which is what's going to happen when people buy my book. I have worked for 5 years to get my book the best it can be and these poeple don't even care they are destroying me and it's all becasue i'm canadian and if thats not true it sure is what they are doing and proving to me!
