On October 21, 2012, I saw an ad for a preowned 2006 Land Rover LR3 at Puente Hills Nissan. It was listed as a 65,033 miles at $21,897.
I called and spoke to Internet Manager Arturo Rico who said come in now for a test drive.
I could not come in that day but could come in the next day.
So I stopped by during my lunch hour the next day and found that the internet manager found a sales person to take over (unprofessional).
The sales person tried his best but could not find the vehicle.
We searched all levels of the parking structure, outside, in the repair shop, and lot.
Finally after half an hour of looking, the sales person finds out it is in their "Bone yard" lot.
Salesman took me to drive there and it was dumped in a dirt lot and had a sticker that said "Hold - pending trade".
Salesman said we can not test drive it because it had not been inspected or road tested and it would be a liability.
The key was turned on to hear the engine then I noticed the mileage was 80,400 miles. Asked the sales person and he said he would find out. I went to run a CarFax check and found the mileage advertised was incorrect. I printed out the CarFax to prove that the odometer and CarFax is correct.
Then a few days later, I get a call from Arturo saying the LR3 is now ready. I then stated that the ad was incorrect in the mileage by almost 20,000 miles.
He said he would adjust for that if I came back in. He never did adjust the pricing.
I offered $17K to start negotiations and he agreed with his GM. I came in on Saturday 10/27/2012 and met with the sales person.
We take a test drive and find out that the listing is erroneous with the trim level.
The dealership advertised it as an SE V8 trim but in reality it was a base V6 model with a 3rd row seat option. The window sticker also advertised seat heaters when if fact it had none.
We head in to the showroom for negotiations and I offer $14K to start, due to the incorrect mileage, wrong trim, and missing options listed on their sticker.
Immediately the sales manager shows up and asks where we got that number ?
I show him comparable sales in the local area for the same model car (Base V6) with approximately similar mileage.
He begins to say that he can't come close to that price and proceeds to start his negotiations from the incorrect advertisement price of $22K.
Before I could tell him that $17K was the starting negotiations, the sales manager becomes rude and shuts me down.
Even as I write this, the dealership still has not corrected the mileage discrepancy and wrong trim & price.
