A vacant lot next to a popular fast food busy resturant..  Rapid tow, places signs in places that are not seen by drivers, they watch you walk into the resturant and then boot your vehicle, and tell you to pay $250.00 cash or you will be towed.  Is this legal? Somewhat, but if this happens to you, chances are you can find a way to get your money back..  The company is required to place signs with the information at the entrance and the exit.  The signs must be visible, the must give you a detailed recipt on exactly how they came up with the $250.00 drop fee.  If any of these things are not done properly, you will get your money back.

It is generally a scam and the signs are placed where you cant see them..  Take if the signs are not visible call the police on the non-emergency number, explain the improper dispay of the signs and and you more then likely will get off the boot..  If you dont have time and just want to pay..  Pay the $250.00 get the receipt with all the information on it.. Make sure they didnt make anything up, then call the Nevada Transportation Autority and file a complaint, if the company overcharged or did not have posted signs, (take pictures with your phone) they will be sited, and fined, also required to return your Money..

Its definaltly a scam but unfortunatly legal if the towing company is on the up and up.  Unforturaltly there are towing companies like the above who bend the rules to take advantage of you!!  Dont just roll over fight back!!  I did!

you missed the point

AUTHOR: Sam - (United States of America)

I really did not expect you to get the point, either.
it was laid out showing you that the tow company is in the process of protecting the property owners rights to NOT let any vehicles park on that property!
you admitted to seeing the signs.
a rebuttal here would be a wast of time.
If you had a true complaint with this company, or any other company, you should go through the proper channels to solve your complaint.
of course we don't mind you putting complaints here, we like the free advertising!
Thank you!

Bottom Line "ITS A SCAM"

AUTHOR: Laura - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, April 23, 2010

1.  The owner of RAPID TOW, told me on the phone, the "BOOTERS" or whatever you want to call them, work for him...

2 Yes, the owner also told me over and over again that he had photos of the posted signs, Im guessing he took the photos of the signs before he pulled them out himself..  Because the "BOOTERS" were on the property when I arrived, and I really think the would have had something to say If I was the moving the signs so I could park there.

3. Funny how I called both the NTA and the Police.  The NTA told me, it was a fine line on being legal, but the company would have to provide a valid recipt,  I guess thats why the "Booter" wanted to give me a handwritten recipt on a piece of blank paper, so I would not have proof that "Rapid Tow", was the one I was paying, and if indeed they charged $250 for a boot fee, I could file a complaint with the NTA and get a refund..  The Police, made your "BOOTERS" take it off and I paid nothing...

4.  Let's weight this out... the police made them take the boots off, due to no visible signs,  The NTA says its a fine line but make sure you get a receipt, which by the way...  What's the name of the Licenced company that Put the boot on and wants to give you a hand written receipt on a blank piece of paper????  Oh yea, the spotters that don't work for "RAPID TOW"!  Yet when I said "Hell no" to giving them cash with no "real receipt"  They called the owner of "Rapid Tow" to find out what to do!!

5.  So as before my conclusion is....  They may not be breaking the law, but they, "rapid tow" know the law and they are "Bending it" in order to "SCAM" People out of $250.00 cash and of course, tell them they are doing them a favor by only Charging the $250.00 because it could be so much worse..  I guess there are many things that are borderline legal, but it sure does not make them right..  And heck yes I'm going to withhold my identity.. With people like you, and your "BOOTERS" I could end up in the hospital and you could find away to say it was legal..  I have a family, Im scared of people like you!!

not a scam

AUTHOR: Sam - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, April 23, 2010

the author of the original report is full of crap. the $250.00 is a booting fee, not a drop fee or a tow fee of any kind.
the police in this jurisdiction have verified the signs are posted properly and are visible to all that enter this lot.
if your vehicle is towed, (towed not booted) than the tow company is regulated by the transportation authority. booting is not regulated.
by all means, take pictures (pref you take the pictures before you go pull up the signs, but it is ok, we have pictures of the signs already) and do get the invoice after you pay the boot release fee. send a complaint to the NTA, make sure you include your real name and address with that complaint, (unlike the slander and make up reports found here) then send it to the authority.
so go right on ahead and cuss out that guy booting your car, tell him he is a real scum bag (they like that) and tell him your not going to pay the fee to get the boot off. so the boot guy calls in the tow truck. now you will owe an additional 50.00 to get the boot off.
the tow truck is going to tow your car. your going to pay the non-consent tow fee. no hidden charges or anything, just the tariff regulated tow fee.
now you need to go to the tow yard and get your car back. (the scum bag bit worked good, right?) don't bring that platinum or gold visa, wont work here. just cash only. and bring plenty of it. because.... your paying for the tow, the boot fee is a separate deal. the tow company doesn't even have keys to the boot. that is because we didn't boot it, we just tow it.
now back to the property the vehicle was towed from. the owner of this particular property was sited code violations by the city for allowing vehicles to park on the dirt lot. the owner paid over five thousand dollars in code violations due to unauthorized parking on this lot. the owner went to the management of the "popular fast food busy restaurant" to get them to help with arrangements to keep the city from issuing any additional citations. he was told to go get stuffed in not so nice terms.
the property owner has the option of spending over fifty grand to bring the property up to code and allow the general public to park on the lot, or post off the property with chain. that lasted less than a week. the post and chain was run over and destroyed.
now the no parking signs are up, they are getting enforced. and if you park on that lot, you may get booted and or towed.
as a side note to the author of the post, Rapid Tow has of yet been required to refund any money for non-consent tow. for any reason what so ever.
Rapid Tow has not lost a small claims suit to date. and every suite filed against Rapid Tow, Rapid Tow has been awarded fees for time.
so where he got the "don't roll over, fight back!! I did!" bit?
you really want to fight back? being a good driver starts and ends from where you park. if you can't start and finish proper, what's to say your going to do the middle right?
I would love to sign my name and put my e-mail address on here, but the post rules say not to, as i follow the rules.
