As a member of RCI, my mother received a call from RCI Cruise and Resort Vacations. It offered two separate 1 week vacations. They could run concurrently if I desired. It consisted of a one week cruise and a one week stay at one of their resorts locations, The price was $2399.00 per couple. She sign up for it and offer it to me and my wife as a present (i'm her son). At first, we thought it was great, until we did some online price research. We found that not only could we get the best valued cruise at $1800 list price from the cruise operator (for even less, at $1500 if we shopped around online), but also, the cruise lines did not charge $600.00 in extra fees charge by RCI for port fees and taxes in addition to the $2300.When you ad the port fees to the price, its over $2900.00! That is $1000.00 more then the advertised list price of the cruise lines!
We went from excitement to disappoint that this company, RCI would rip off my retired mother. I recommended that she ask for her money back, but RCI refused. My wife and I have such a bad feeling about this company that we can't take the free offer from my mother. They are overcharging by 150% and taking advantage of their members who trust their recommendations. Its clear that their management team has suffered in its moral development and is taking financial advantage of its trusting membership. If they had done this to me directly, I would have them in small claims count overnight for misrepresentation. It's no surprise that RCI has so many class action suits against them. The moral of the story it to stay away for RCI. Sell if you can.
Last, the additional one week of vacation is from a very limit pool of hotels that are sub standard and only offer during the off season times (Kelowna, Canada is only in the winter!!). In addition, the nightly rates stated by RCI are almost twice the price if you go directly to the hotel/resort website and book directly. The ultimate insult to my mother is the fact that she is paying monthly and RCI is charging almost double digit interest on top of these fees.
On my advice, my mother did try to get her money back, the RCI Cruise personal would only argue with her. This is not a reputable company. Buyers should stay away and work with more reputable resort brokerages.

RCI/ Timeshare Trade Scam
AUTHOR: BarbaraF - ()

I received a recorded message to my cell phone from RCI claiming a friend entered my name into a contest and I have won a timeshare trade and air travel for four adults, plus numerous amenities, to Cancun. Intuiting this was a scam after being switched to a live agent confirming I am over 25 and have a credit card, I grilled him to get to the point, refusing to hear his sales pitch. Had I won tickets or not? The CSR eventually admitted this was an RCI promotional offer. When I proclaimed their message was false advertising (to say I "had won" a contest, when this was simply a promotional offer) and stated I would contact the FCC, he hung up on me. RCI's local to Portland, Oregon phone number is: 503-427-7493. My cell number is registered on the Government Do Not Call List.

RCI Cruises And Billing Credit Card Practices
AUTHOR: mowen - (United States of America)

I had my mother check her monthly credit card billings from RCI Cruises. It showed a pattern of double billings per month on several occasions. Not only was this a breach of the designated stated billing period (in her case, the 15th of the month), but they added a second payment later in the month against the credit card (RCI Cruises charged her card twice in a month in multiple instances!).
My mother contact RCI Cruises and brought this to their attention. RCI response was to say that it was their prerogative to charge as required. This was the final issue for my mother, so she cancel her cruise payments with RCI (my mother's loss). RCI agreed to the cancellation and then proceed to charge her credit card one more time that day, making it three charges or payments for the month of January 2013! These are nasty people who intent is to take as much money from you as possible.
My mother called her credit card provider to complain. To my surprise, the bank indicated that RCI Cruise was in violation of their agreement with Master Card in their charging practices. The long story short is that the bank, the Bank of Montreal, is going after RCI Cruise to get my mom's money back.
The bottom line with RCI Cruise is to stay away. Do not give them your credit card as they will abuse it as well.
