potato bug?

AUTHOR: Lucrecia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Many restaurants use real potatos to make their mashed potatos. Maybe it was a naturally occuring potato bug and not a roach? Either way the server should have apologized and offered you new serving or a replacement product if you wished one... and she should have sent the manager over to your table to discuss the situation with you at which time you both could have come to a reasonable agreement as to what action should be taken.

As to the manager and his "boyfriend"... you really have no clue as to whom he was talking to. It could have been his boyfriend, could have been another employee, his brother or a regular guest. His sexual orientation has nothing to do with his job position or his ability to run a restautant, solve problems or provide customer service. Addin git into the report simply shows your indiffrence and imaturity in handling the situation.

And- if he did not offer you an acceptable action in regards to the situation, you should have gone home and written a letter or called the corporate offices.

Get Off Melanie's Back

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 16, 2005

Leave this girl alone! She has just as much right as anyone else to complain! This is what this website is for! The Rip-Off Report website is set up to help victims of bad customer service. It is NOT for people to get on here and attack the people who have been victims! There is NO excuse for a bug to be on your plate at a restaurant no matter what you say. She had every right to complain. After all, this IS supposed to be a free country! So please do not attack someone who has already been a victim. Have a little respect and consideration for others, treating them as you would want to be treated.

Red Lobster is NOT dirty !!

AUTHOR: Mariet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 26, 2005

In response to the 19 year old girl who found a bug at Red Lobster, but does not want to argue with people on here... If you do not want to argue with people, then maybe you shouldn't have posted a stupid comment like that with which nobody can really do anything!

I have worked at Red Lobster in many areas of the restaurant ie. server, hostess, dishroom, line grill and food preparation. I have never in all my time with Darden Co. seen a single bug. All the employees at the Red Lobster where I work at will eat there after their shifts. If you want to find out how clean or dirty a restaurant is, see if the employees will eat there. It shows what goes on in the kitchen.

I have been to several Red Lobsters in the Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo area, and I assure you, they are all very clean. So, unless the standards in Pittsburgh are substantially lower than here in Michigan, just write it off as a freak accident, quit being a spoiled teenager and try coming in again.

Red Lobster really does have some of the best seafood in town! Sorry that the manager was a jerk to you, but it doesn't sound like your own attitude was plausible either.

One last piece of advice... if you have a complaint- the calmer and friendlier you approach a manager, the more likely they are they will work with you. I have seen my managers take off a whole meal off a guest's bill because they waited longer in the lobby than their quote time, and didn't get too upset or crazy.

I have also seen managers shrug at bitching customers who demanded free appetizers because there were spots on the mirror in the bathroom, or their drinks took five minutes on a Friday or Saturday night when the restaurant is filled to capacity, with fifty parties waiting for a table. Trust me, we are all working as hard as possible to make the guest's experience as good as possible, but you have to be reasonable. Not everything can always go your way!!

A different kind og "bug"?

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 25, 2005

"Also JOHN This red lobster uses a device that video tapes and records all conversations in the restaurant. "

How paranoid is this? Gimme a break here. This would be a far bigger problem than insect pieces. Let's consider this. First it would be illegal to do such recording without my express approval. Second, it would mean that all PERSONAL conversations, BUSINESS conversations, etc., are also being taped. Who in their right mind would patronize such a place?

Yet your indignation is towards the possible food contamination? Please, if what you say is true - you need the local office of the FBI, not the health department.

Sorry, I have to call "bullshit" on this one.

Melanie Get a Life

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 25, 2005

Apparently when you went to see the manager he was busy with someone else. You assume from that he is a homosexual flitting around with his boyfriend, If you continued with this attitude whem he came to your table no wonder he didn't want anything to do with you.

Why do you spew hatred at me and make fun of where I come from just because you left off some simple details on your foirst post that anyone with half a brain would have included. Just telling us you found a bug doesn't say anything.

Get a g5rip and maybe if you didn't spew hatred other people would treat you better. It's hard to believe thatyou are in the city of brotherly love.

Bugs are a fact of life

AUTHOR: Anthony - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 24, 2005

Bugs in restaurants are a fact of life, particularly in urban areas, and are worse the closer the buildings are to each other. I'd be amazed if there wasn't a restaurant in Philadelphia that didn't have roaches. Once they get in (often hidden in food supply deliveries) there isn't much that can be done to eliminate them, they can only be controlled. When I was a teenager, I worked at a restaurant and we had monthly extermination and kept all food supplies in a brightly lit sealed room 24/7 since they tend to avoid light. That works pretty well, but it's not 100%. It's a shame you found a bug -- it should be a very rare event in any restaurant -- but the fact is that you eat hundreds (if not thousands) of bug parts every day. Do you eat cheese, butter, tomatoe sauce, ketchup, flour, or anything that is canned? If so, you are eating bug parts. It can not be helped, only controlled. In fact, the FDA sets limits on the number of maggots, bugs and bug parts that are permited in almost every type of processed food. These limits are published and I am sure you can find them somewhere on the FDA's web site. The manager at Red Lobster probably could and should have handled your incident much better, but I doubt there was anything he could have done to totally prevent the problem. The Philadelphia Health Department won't get too excited about your complaint either because they see 1000 times worse every day. At least that particilar Red Lobster is in a modern free-standing building which almost certainly has monthly exterminator visits. A bit of advice, don't eat at any Philadelphia restaurant that is part of a row of structures. I own an office building attached to a popular NE Philly diner/restaurant and every time they spray next door, my basement is inundated with hundreds of dying cockroaches along with a few mice. Needless to say, I don't even get coffee there. If you are really upset with the way the manager treated your complaint, your best bet is to write a letter of complaint to Red Lobster's corporate offices. Be specific and as unemotional as possible as you describe the manager (and his boyfriend's) actions that day. That will bring him under the most scrutiny.

YES I DID let the manager know of my problem

AUTHOR: Melanie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 23, 2005

Yes I did let the manager know of my problem, However he seemed to be to busy in the front of the restaurant attending to what seemed to be HIS boyfriend who was picking inside his mouth and staring at his fingers. When the manager approached my table he immediately took away my plate and took it right to the kitchen. He then came back and told me it was POSSIBLY a piece of wild rice. He tried to justify the problem. IT DOES NOT MATTER I Know IT WAS A BUG!!!! Anyhow as I went about my day and complained to all of my family, friends coworkers, and anyone else in the world that would listen to my horrifying story I come to find out that there are many complaints about this restaurant. I plan on getting together with these people and fixing this problem. Iam currently waiting for the philadelphia board of health to contact me. I will stop at nothing!!!!! This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. Also JOHN This red lobster uses a device that video tapes and records all conversations in the restaurant. SO when they play it back they will hear everything including Dottie the waitress saying "yea well it does look like a bug I wouldn't be to alarmed" So Mr John if that explanation doesn't satisfy You enough maybe You just love your little job at red lobster or you like to roach flavored mashed potatoes in georgia......

Did you tell anyone??

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 23, 2005

Did you bother to tell anyone? Did the management do anything after ypu let them know, or are you upset about something else or lashing out a t them.

Our society is not perfect. The restauraunt would like to know things like this so that they can try to find the source of the problem

Spewing off here with unsubstantiated claims that seem bogus do no one any good.
