Reed Publishing Bogus invoice received?? Plattsburgh New York

My company received an invoice from Reed Publishing saying that an order was placed by a former employee and that an amount of 493.69 was past due and in collections. Contacted former employee who stated that there was no order placed.

I could not find the company listed on several legitimate business sites so I did a Google search for Reed Publishing. Google returned 2 hits about bogus invoices from this company.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but the shipping date listed closely coincides with the date that my company was purchased by a larger company. I don't know if this is a tactic used to cause confusion and get an invoice paid that may not be legitimate. At this time, we are unable to determine that this letter is legitimate and it will not be paid.
