I booked a room using Google search for the Wyndham San Diego Bayside, at least I thought I was booking directly with them. I completed the booking and found out two days later that I could not make the trip. I called the Wyndham directly and was told that I had acutally booked through a company that is an affiliate of Expedia. They gave me number to call to cancel my reservation, this is five days before my scheduled arrival date. After being shuffled through numerous automated responses and never gettting to a person, I called Expedia. They gave me another number that connected me to a person. He asked if I had clicked the box that said I accepted their terms and conditions? I did say that I had. He then said that they have a "No Refund" policy that was included in the conditions and said goodbye. I accept that I didn't read all the many pages of the terms and conditions, but the initial page where I booked the reservation never mentioned the policy. I felt that I was being ripped off to the tune of $441.54. I did call my credit card company and disputed the charge and cancelled my card. Note to the wise. Always insure that you deal directly with the establishment. It was explained to me that companies pay Google thousands of dollars to get their websites on the top that look and fell like the original, but are not. At 61 I am still learning and did so from this experience.
