Hello,
The following is an actual statement of something that just happened! Please read, and please be very careful when making online transactions!
On April 20, 2006 I placed an order from BabyUniverse.com. At the end of the order a pop up appeared that offered a rebate. I entered my email address, and from there was unknowingly listed with a "company" called Reservation Rewards. I never heard anything else from this site, and really didn't think much about it.
Yesterday I was checking my bank account and saw withdrawals for $10.00 coming out of my account once a month. The name on the transaction threw me for a loop, as I knew that I hadn't seen it before. The name was WLI RESERVATIONR. I began investigating this matter at once. I contacted the bank, placed a stop payment on the transactions and canceled my card.
Thankfully it had only happened twice, but the third transaction was rolling around. I am very picky about keeping our account to the T, so to speak. At first I thought it was just another name for something, for example, sometimes gas stations will have a different name on their account than what's on the sign. However, the second time I knew that this had to be a mistake. Wow, what an unpleasant surprise, huh? "You've been SCAMMED!"
The bank gave me a toll free number for this "company" and I called them at once. Upon speaking with someone from the company I was informed that after making my purchase at BabyUniverse.com that when I typed my email in for the "rebate" it gave them access to my account information, (WHAT?!) and that in fine print somewhere it says that I am joining their company, "Reservation Rewards." HOWEVER, I never ever gave this "company" my account information, and I never agreed to any monthly payments! I simply entered my email to receive my so-called rebate.
I went on to ask for the name of the president of this company and I was told his name is Walter Dabek. The CSR quickly informed me that she noted my account to receive a complete refund. (Funny thing, I never purchased anything, they were actually stealing money from our account!) I informed her that the money better be back in there, and soon. I asked for an address to this place and the CSR "Ebony" said that it is PO Box 855 Shelton Connecticut 06084. I asked for a street address and the CSR said, without hesitation, that giving out a street address wasn't allowed. (Well no wonder, this is a scam!!!)
I did find out that the main "site" for this place is webloyalty.com . I went to the site and began doing more
investigating, and I also looked up more
about "Reservation Rewards" which is a program with webloyalty.com and I am finding that businesses are partnering in this scam by passing on your account information for this so-called membership, as they receive benefits, I'm sure!
So, the last I checked our "refund" is still not in our account. Do you really think it will be? Nah. Still, I am researching this further and pursuing further action in disputing this dishonest behavior, in hopes that others will not fall victim to such acts.
That's why I wanted to give you all a big warning, that if you see anything about rebates, or anything at all with the name Reservation Rewards, STOP IMMEDIATELY and cancel your order and information from the company you were making a transaction with!!!
Several WELL KNOWN companies are in partnership with this! BE CAREFUL!!! SCARY!

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Never accept pop-up offers
AUTHOR: Alma - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Friday, June 02, 2006
Please, be very aware of this kind of pop-up scam. It is not only webloyalty, many other sites - with totally useless "services" use the same method.
When you order anything on-line, and you see ANY pop-up offer - for discount, rebate, "$5 off from your next order", "free" anything, slow down, try to find out how to DECLINE the offer. NEVER ever accept it. It is always a trap.
Sometimes you have to check a box to decline, sometimes uncheck. Click on the tiny "terms" link. (If there IS a link...)Do NOT repeat any of your data (name, address, e-mail etc.)- the repeat means you accept something.
Something else. Simply do not use the site again to order. Punish the site itself too. Even if it is a "well known" company.
