I was looking for orthopedic furniture as I have disabilities. I called Ritz Furniture Gallery to ask if they carried power option furniture and I spoke with Vivian.
I drove to the store and Vivian immediately turned me over to Cathy, who I later found out is her mother. Cathy showed me a sofa that had just arrived and came with a power option.
I sat in it and said, This is what I'm looking for. I told her I had no furniture to sit on as I sold mine a few days earlier, so I really needed furniture. She told me it takes 6-8 weeks to order furniture with the power option.
I asked if she had any recliners there with power already in, and she didn't so she showed me the recliners she did have and I found one I liked, and it was comfortable and easy for me to pull the handle. It was a rocker/swivel/recliner.
I decided to purchase this overpriced recliner@$799.00 Cathy said was on sale. They delivered it the next day, and in the week I had it, I was walking into my living room, lost my balance as I often do, and grabbed the arm of the recliner and nearly fell.
Because it is a swivel chair, it was not stable. I called Cathy and told her this chair is not safe for me and that I wanted a refund. She would not do a refund and said she could only give me a store credit.
I felt *obligated* and *pressured* to purchase another recliner I really didn't want or have room for in my living room, so I told her to order the power recliner that matched the sofa I ordered reluctantly. Clearly I knew I was way over my budget.
When they delivered the recliner on Thursday, July 15th, 2010, it was not what I expected since they didn't have a recliner there at the store for me to try, but Cathy assured me it was just like the sofa, but it is not, and the seating area is small because they put too much padding in the back, which as a result moves you forward.
When your reclined in this recliner, and you lean even slightly forward, it falls forward to the floor, so as a result I fell out of this chair onto the floor. I am disabled and use a cane, so it was difficult for me to get up.
Cathy also pressured me in regard to paying for this furniture and adamantly said I had to pay for it before I recieved it and thus wrote a date down on my reciept from the swivel chair and sofa I purchased and when she should expect a check.
I wanted to pay after I inspected and recieved this furniture, but again she put pressure and stress on me and I could see her getting impatient. I also told her when I first dealt with her that I had a budget of $2,000 and I was on a fixed income.
The total cost for 2 pieces of furniture, and not really high quality furniture was: $3,063.81. That is a rip off! I am ok with the sofa, but the recliner does not work for me physically or fit in my living room and I want a full refund.
Since she is the owner, she could have made an exception in good faith as an honest business person to refund my money and have a satisfied customer who would have promoted her business instead of demoting it.
Since she chose not to give me a refund I am forced to file these reports. I will tell everyone I know about this business and to not buy anything from Cathy at Ritz Furniture Gallery in Lynnwood, WA.

Just so I have this right..

You sold your existing furniture BEFORE you went to buy new items.
You are on a "fixed" income but could afford $2,000 for a couch and recliner. Although you knew you were finally over your budget and spent over $3,000.
You decided to purchase the "overpriced" recliner. Even though you purchased a "rocker/swivel/recliner" you had no idea that it would actually swivel.
You had it for a week, and when you finally wanted to return it they only offered you a "store credit".
They actually had the nerve to ask for full payment before they delivered the items.
They didn't "make an exception" and give you a full refund on the threat of you "demoting" their business.
Yet after all of this the store is the one who is at fault and ripping you off...Ummm
