I don't know how many times I've heard these weasels claim that for two of my vehicles.

I'll detail two instances here, however:

2013 Cadillac ATS with damaged front intake / control dampers.  Driving down the highway, a stray piece of debris from some truck in front of me hit my car.  It wasn't long after this, my front intake damper got locked open.  Normally this closes and opens for aerodynamics and to increase air flow when operating at extreme temperatures.  I took it to a Cadillac shop and attempted to get Route 66 to pay for it.  Keep in mind I have the highest level of coverage (as they put it, equal to factory).

Route 66 decided to label the front intake system a "cosmetic part" because the front grille is attached to the assembly and thus the entire system is all one "part".  You replace the entire unit when damaged.

Additionally, I was informed by the Cadillac dealership that if the car had still been under factory warranty, it would have been covered no question.  Yet, Route 66 chose to label the entire unit "cosmetic".

2013 Volvo XC90 with stuck shifter.  This vehicle would frequently not allow the driver to shift to park or shift out of park.  It took quite a bit of wire wiggling and trial and error to do it.  Sometimes it would take 10 mins just to park the vehicle.  Again, I have the highest level of coverage on this vehicle as well.

Guess what Route 66 labeled the shifter?  "Cosmetic" part.

Luckily through some hastling, we were able to convince them of their ignorance that that it in fact, was a crucial part to the operation of the vehicle.  They did agree to pay it, but refused to pay the diagnostic fee from the dealership which was required in order to identify the faulty components.

Would the dealership have charged me a diagnostic fee for this had it still been under 50k miles? No.

This whole advertising their warranties as just as good as factory is a HUGE RIP OFF.
