Morning and night we are harassed by RPM collection agency. They claim we owe Verizon money. We have never used Verizon. They declared what they thought our address was however it was incorrect, as was the telephone number they claimed was our Verizon number. They wanted us to confirm or deny the last 4 digits of my husbands social security number which of course I refused to do. I spoke to an operator who couldn't speak English, I asked for the supervisor whose name was Yadira Valenzer ( or something remotely similar). She was RUDE and menacing. She said since we would not confirm or deny the 4 digits of the social security indicates that we are guilty!!
I tried to find out where RPM was located, an address or something but she refused to give it to us. They continue to call. I don't think they can do anything to us as they have the wrong information. But how long are they going to annoy us with the phone calls? It has been going on for 3 months.
What recourse do we have?

I have & still work for a collection agency for the past 10 years. The cease & desist letter does work, but in the FDCPA they can still call to inform you that they can proceed with other action involving the debt if it is still in the limit for legal action on the statue of limitations for the "current" state you live in. The best thing to do is confirm the last 4 of your SSN they can't do anything with it. If it doesn't match they have to remove your number but like the mini-miranda quotes calls may be recorded so you have that protection if it doesn't match and they keep calling that would be harrassment, if it does match you have to file a dispute for the debt.

I agree with the previous rebuttal. You are being scammed to some degree. The best recourse, right now, is to send a cease and desist letter.
The next time they call, after they get through their spiel about being a debt collection agency etc., ask for the address where they would like cease and desist letters sent.
Here is the template I use for such letters:
Per Section 805(C) (15 USC 1692c(C)) of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and except as otherwise permitted by said Act, you are hereby ordered to CEASE AND DESIST any and all further communications with the below named consumer. This order shall apply to all communications including by mail, telephone, or otherwise, and shall encompass communications to any third parties including, but not limited to, employers, relatives, and neighbors.
Any and all violations of this order shall be prosecuted as permitted by the FDCPA, as well as any and all external state or federal laws.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Some suggest sending this letter by certified mail. This is not necessary, but it probably is a good idea.
Best of luck!

I believe that this caller is trying to scam you. I would imform this caller that if they call again that you will report them for fraud.
