The worst experience. My family wanted to provide a home for a dog in need. We found a dog through ruff house rescue who we chose to foster before committing to adoption. We fell in love with the dog and decided to take it to the vet to make sure it was healthy. We were suprised to learn that the dog was infected with 2 types of worms, one of which is contagious to people. Having 2 small children, this was very concerning. When we contacted Diane and Melissa at ruff house to explain that we treated the dog. we were scolded for taking the dog to the vet prior to adoption and were refused compensation. They then said that we were unfit and to return the dog. This was a quick change of heart as they were very enthusiastic about us adopting even before our foster period was over. Theses people pretend to be in the animals best interest but clearly only want the $. They give away sick contagious animals in hopes that the adopter will not find out until after the adoption is official. It is really a shame, and an exploitation of animals.

Rebuttal to ALL the negative feedback about Ruffhouse Rescue

With many many years under my belt in dog rescue & rehabilitation, as well as a dedicated animal advocate, I have personally & professionally dealt with Diane & Ruffhouse rescue for several years. Few people I know take BETTER care of her animals than Diane. ALL her animals (cats included!) are ALWAYS health checked, vetted & spayed/neutered. They are fed extremely well with the best foods available, as well as individual supplements for each animals special needs. I've never seen anyone work as hard as Diane for the animals, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Her energy & strength amaze me! Bashing a reputable rescue like Ruffhouse is simply ignorant. Unless you've been directly involved & "hands on" in animal rescue there's a lot to know before you criticize!
FIRST, there is NO money to be made in rescue. Every cent that comes in goes directly to vet bills. Just to name a FEW expenses: Medication for eyes, ears, skin, etc. Antibiotics, dewormers, heartworm prevention, vaccines, etc. Transport to & from facilities. Treats, food, toys, beds, flea/tick shampoos, etc. Housing, crates, kennels, etc. Inventory, cleaning supplies, towels, paper products, disposal bags, etc. Rent, electric, insurance, etc. Transport vehicle/s carriers, gas, insurance, maintenance, repairs etc. YOU DO THE MATH. That's why they are called a "Non Profit" group! They solely depend on donations & fundraisers to continue their rescue efforts! Rescue is a 24/7 operation; not a full time job with pay. There is no other source of income!
SECOND, As for parasites, it's financially impossible to fecal test EVERY animal that comes in, unless of course symptoms are evident, then proper medication will be administered promptly. Any other health issue that MAY come up during & after adoption or foster, are literally impossible to predict. It's for this reason it is suggested you take your newest member of the family to your own vet after adoption, hence a vet referral to insure the well being of the animal. If you're fostering, communicating with Diane is EXTREMELY important as you both only have the animals best interest at heart, right? Taking your foster to your own vet for a more in depth examination, at your expense would be an awesome donation, truly a blessing & very much appreciated!! One less expense will allow Diane to save another animals life! After all, fostering & adopting is all about HELPING the animals & offering them the best home possible, don't you agree? .
THIRD, ALL Dianes' time is consumed with home checks, meet & greets, walking dogs, transporting animals back & fourth for vetting, & spay/neuter appointments, walking dogs, socializing dogs, bathing, feeding, cleaning, keeping track medications, set up & break down of adoption events, working these events, personally climbing up hills through wooded areas to rescue an animal, etc., and this is just SOME of the physical requirements!! How about keeping precise records & updates for EVERY animal that comes through her door? Reviewing applications, web page updates, photos & videos of the animals, reading & answering emails, phone calls, interviews, vet references, the list goes ON & ON. Thank God for Melissa & the volunteers EVERY DAY for all their efforts in helping Diane & her animals! FYI people, LIMITED hours of operation, adoption hours & visiting hours DOES NOT MEAN the animals are unattended to. It means the animals ARE being attended to! Having the doors open to the public means many people walking in and out, asking questions, & wanting to see the animals. That is all well & good, BUT, that would TAKE THE TIME AWAY from the ANIMALS being fed, walked, cleaned, medications, etc. as people do not want to be ignored. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Let's not forget there is very little time for Diane's own animals & family, so the time she does spend with them is precious. There is no such thing as a vacation, sick day, Dr,'s appointment, or family time, as Diane is on call 24/7 for animals in need or rescue. She neglects her OWN life for the sake of the animals.
I must also mention that the horrors, neglect, & cruelty Diane sees EVERY day is tremendously heartbreaking & drains every last ounce of energy one could have. It's VERY ugly out there. Diane needs to be THANKED for sparing the public from such horror! With ALL this being said, as you can see, animal rescue is an extremely busy, stressful, tiring, LABOR OF LOVE. The ONLY thing that keeps Diane going is watching the lives she works so tirelessly to save & rescue from horrible situations, live happily ever after in their new loving homes. So, yeah, before YOU decide to bash, threaten, degrade, condemn, dump on, & disgrace Diane for being rude or inconsiderate, think again. Her ENTIRE life is dedicated to these animals! You should be ashamed of yourself for being so selfish & self absorbed. Try spending just ONE day in her shoes! I highly doubt ANYONE could or would even attempt to do what she does for ANIMALS, EVERY DAY!
