Safelite was referred by Geico to repair a tiny windshield crack on my car. My mistake was not watching the technician during the repair. I went into my apartment since she said it would take 20 minutes. The next day, I noticed some spots on my hood. I called Safelite since those spots were not there before. They came out and said they did not do that. I went to some body repair shops and they said the damage was from chemicals and not rocks or stones. I know who did it but Safelite will not take responsibility. It is too bad that they are not careful about who they hire and take responsibility for their employees' mistakes. Make sure you watch what you sign, too. They will give you a long form folded over so you cannot see what they put on the form. The form will say that you had scratches on your hood. I think they are told to say that in case they do damage to your car, they will say that you already had scratches on your car. Looking back, I made two big mistakes. One is not looking over the whole form before I signed it and the other is not watching the person every minute. Well, I was too trusting and I got burned. I will never trust a person working on my car again. If this report helps anyone learn from my mistakes, I will feel better. Right now, I am stuck because the cost to get rid of the chemical stains and repaint my hood would cost $800 of which I would have to pay the first $500 deductible. This company is unscrupulous and will do anything to make money. There are others out there that are trustworthy. Please shop around and by all means be there and watch every move they make.

I believe I have a life..

Unless I am somehow responding while dead. I admit I did not notice you were actually replying to safelite and not myself..somehow I did not notice that safelite did in fact replybefore I did..this site does on occasion "re-sequence" the order of real time "transactions".
But I can state with pretty much 100% certainty, that I do have a life. Be it that I devote part of it..to debunk bullshit reports.
Now why don't you get in your car..crank up some music..and enjoy life a little?

Replying to Safelite

I was replying to Safelite. If you are not an employee of the company, you seen overly interested in something that did not happen to you. If Safelite is so great, why so many complaints on this site.
I am done here and will take this issue to Court. If you write again, I will ignore it. Don't you have a life.

Are you responding to my reply???

If so..you are not understanding anything. I replied as a consumer..and never stated or implicated in any way that I am an employee or owner of the company.
I was simply vouching for the company as a whole..being I am very good friends with a long term employee, as I clearly posted.
I personally am unaware of any "chemicals" they use to replace or fix a windshield. I can't imagine a company that is nationwide and in business for so long..would use any chemicals that can damage paint..it just makes no sense.
I do not judge someone by their sex, or if god forbid they listen to music. Sorry but that is not enough of a reason to conclude this employee used her own chemicals to damage your paint and hood.
I also do not know what the reason is or why you would make anything up, or that because of what "some body repair" shops say..concludes safelite got chemicals on your hood...but for some reason you ARE in fact responding here with false unwarranted accusations that this is my company..when I simply responded as a consumer and used my freedom of speech to share my opinion, and first hand friendship with an employee of this company.
Out of curiosity, what is the year, make, mileage and model of the vehicle..and what color/finish type? I may be able to offer a suggestion if that info is posted.

Chemical Damages to Customer's Car Hood

That is the whole problem. I have already spoken with 5 people at your corporate resolution customer service line and they do not want to take responsibility. I am tired of the inference that I am not telling the truth. Do you really think that I would make this kind of thing up? I have had nothing but headaches since this thing happened and it is only made worse by talking to people at Safelite who do not believe nor wish to help me. My car hood was in perfect shape with shiny paint and no scratches. Now, the chemicals have burned through and my hood has rusted spots.
As far as your company's procedures on checking out your employees, I think the one that "fixed" my windshield fell through the cracks. My instincts told me not to trust her when she had her radio blasting on the company car, no less. She was not concerned about the tenants being disturbed at all. Is that professional?
The manager of the San Diego office came out to look at my car and said that basically I would have to prove that the chemical composites of the resin your company uses made the damage. Yet he would not tell me what the composites are. What am I, a chemist?
I do not think that your company means it when you say that you want to take steps to resolve this issue. In fact, I have heard that about five times before and nothing has been done yet.

..granted I can not vouch for the particular employee that did your repair..but a really good friend of mine is a top tech with the company..
This guy is like one of the most ethical God fearing people I know on the planet (in other words a rare breed). He is 100% honest and hard working and really knows his stuff. The fact that Safelite even hires people like this (he has been with the company for years and years) tells me they will and do stand behind their work and have ethics.
The fact that an employee responded to this site regarding the complaint so quickly (well the SAME day for that matter), displays the companies integrity.
Read some reports on this website about nationwide companies...they in most cases do not respond at all to complaints. I have a feeling this issue can be resolved and it probably did not require lodging a complaint here.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with us. Like many other automotive repair companies, we complete a vehicle condition assessment to ensure that no potential damage during the repair process goes unreported. Our trained and certified technicians aim to delight each and every customer; when that does not happen, we do whatever we can to turn the situation around. I'd be happy to research the issue further to see if there's anything that we can do. If we are responsible, we will work with you to make things right. Please e-mail your contact information to OnlineHelp@safelite.com.
