End of February 2016 I started having pain from a cavity. I immediately contacted Humana to find a provider. Humana recommended enrolling in a dental plan for approximately $12 a month. I agreed to enroll and was referred to Sage Dental. My Humana member ID is 0000024134499. I promptly made an appointment with Sage Dental at their Central Boynton Beach location. Dr. Gonzales took some x-rays and said I needed a root canal. This dental procedure took many, many months. During three office visits she tried to kill the nerve and wasn’t successful. I was in a tremendous amount of pain during this time and I even developed an infection as a result. Dr. Gonzales said they would need to cut my gums because the cavity was very deep and I declined. At that time she gave me a medical clearance for dental treatment form since I have diabetes. However, my doctor refused to sign as he didn’t agree with this procedure and didn’t want to be liable for any complications resulting from this.
I decided to go their West Boynton Beach location and find a different provider, as Sage Dental has multiple office locations, and their office staff said it was best to enroll in their VIP program as they had better discounts than Humana. I agreed to enroll in their VIP program as well. This happens to be the same location my daughter went to with her children. At the time I didn’t know they were no better than their previous office. My daughter’s son actually developed multiple cavities that could have been prevented if the dentist had mentioned bringing him in for cleanings every 3 months versus every 6 months since his teeth were in bad shape already. At just 2 years old he had to undergo general anesthesia for some dental work, four crowns and a root canal to be exact, which cost over $3,000 at Miami Children’s Hospital. According to Dr. Buitrago he would have to start my dental procedure all over again as the root canal performed at the previous office was no good.
He removed two permanent bridges from my lower molars on both sides since it appeared I had another cavity. The first one was on the lower right and the second one was on the lower left. He also pulled two molars that he claimed were loose and needed to be removed which is not true. I was asked how much I had paid the previous office since they asked for the money in advance and was told I needed to ask them for a refund. When I asked for a refund, the Central Boynton Beach office, said they had already completed all dental work and there was no remaining refund which is not true. This has been an awful experience! I have no molars, Sage Dental has yet to issue a full refund on dental work not performed, and every time I call or drop by in person they lie about when I will get a refund and exactly what amount they will refund. I have been hung up on numerous times and have not been treated in a respectful manner by Carla, the Central Boynton Beach office’s manager. Linda, the West Boynton Beach office’s manager is aware of the issues and has refused to assist me as well.
After paying $3,468, Sage Dental is still sending me a bill for $460! Sage Dental claims they inserted two crowns when that is not true. I had them done many years ago at a different dental office. Those crowns were part of bridges I already had. The x-rays they initially took should show this. All they did was pull four molars and remove my previous bridges and now I have nothing in my mouth but missing teeth, crowns, and bridges.
