My story of Sear Citi Bank credit card. I went to Sears a few years ago to buy a remote garage door opener. At checkout they said, open a Sears credit card and you can take 10% off this purchase. I agreed and had no plan to use the card when I got it. The card was mailed to me and I never activated it. I cut it up and threw it in the trash. One year ago I moved into a new house. I needed a bed and went to Sears Outlet to buy one. While I was there I saw a small dishwasher I wanted. I purchased both and went to checkout and attempted to pay with my debit card. The cashier said she tried several time and the card would not go thru. The items were already loaded in my truck and she suggested I open as Sears’s credit card. I told her I had one that I had never used and destroyed the card. She took my drivers license (that had my new address) and processed the card. She told me I would get a new card and the bill in the mail.As time passed and working on the move to a new house IU had forgotten all about this.
Fast forward one year later. My brother calls me, to tell me there is a credit agency looking for me. I call them and it is over this SEARS CITIBANK credit card. Now I owe all the interest and penalties. They take all my information, name, address, phone #, employer, ECT. The address they have is my last address. So everything went to that address, the card and all the bills. It was never updated when I made the new purchases. I also think the fact that my debit card would not go thru has a ploy to get me to apply for a credit card, and a few extra dollars went into the salesperson pocket. Once I became aware of this issue I paid it off in full and had the money to so at anytime. Part of this is my fault for not remembering this transaction. But I feel they did not do their part, when they were given updated information and did not put it into the system. So once again the big corporation gets over and the little guy has to suffer with, now and bad credit rating, never mind what this will do to my security sensitive job. Thanks SEARS AND CITIBANK!

Forgetting to pay your bill is not bait and switch...

This is simple...you bought two big ticket items and somehow forgot that you put them on your credit card. You say you are partially at fault. Nice try, but no.
Had you let it slip a month or two and then remembered, where you found out you were being charged interest and penalties then you may have a valid claim. But that is NOT what happened. You stated that it was over a year later when you found out. Your excuse..you were involved in the move you just forgot. So you were moving for a year? So sleeping on the bed or doing a load of dishes for a year, not once did you say..."Umm..you know I don't think I ever got a bill".
I also think the fact that my debit card would not go thru has a ploy to get me to apply for a credit card, and a few extra dollars went into the salesperson pocket.
- Oh so you really believe that do you? So I guess Sears gives the power to approve or deny transactions to the cashier. So they must have put a switch on their register that says "deny" so that they can deny select people to get them to apply for a credit card. Never mind that you could have just as easily pulled out another credit card and thwarted their evil plan. Never mind that you could have applied but been denied for their credit card where they loose out on an entire sale. No of course not, you have to justify this so you come up with this "conspiracy theory".
As for your "high security job". Most security checks that look at credit also look at the actual debt you owe. Because the more delinquent debt you owe, the more of a risk you are. In your case you claim to have paid the balance off. Where since that balance is 0 you are a lower risk. Of course if your work ever questions it, you can just give them the same story you gave here. If they believe you and you are telling the truth, then you have nothing to worry about...right?
