On Thursday Morning July 15th, I contacted Sears to repair my Heat Pump/AC unit that was installed by them in 2007.  The compressor would not come on and it was only blowing hot air.  Sears told me that the unit was still under warranty until 2017 as I'd purchased the extended warranty.  They said the soonest they could have someone onsite was Monday July 19th between 8-12.

Monday I called at 11:45 a.m. and was told they'll be there soon; they did not show at all.  I called them back and the customer service person said they'd have to reschedule me for Tuesday July 20th between 8-12.

Tuesday I again called in advance, and was told they're on their way; then of course they did not show.  I was told Tuesday afternoon that they'd be here Wednesday July 21st between 10-2.

Wednesday I began calling at 8:00 a.m. to verify they'd be here as agreed between 10-2, after my third call at 10:12 a.m I was again informed that they wouldn't be here today and I'd been rescheduled to Tuesday July 27 because they didn't have anyone available.

I asked to speak to their local routing office and was told they're not allowed to transfer me and their is no one to talk to; but make sure you're home when they do show up or you won't get service.

Sears is running a home services scam on their customers when it comes to service appointments. They intentionally overbook appointments knowing they can't make it there in time. Their bread and butter are the service contracts they sell.  Stay AWAY from Sears at all costs, they are liars and customers are expendable, as once they get your money, they don't wish to provide the agreed upon service.

I wish I'd seen the link below before ever dealing with Sears.  I too was a lifelong Sears customer and believed them to be a reputable organization; that is obviously no longer the case.

Today Wednesday July 21st I decided to call customer service in Hoffman Estates, Ill to give them one more chance before filing this report.  I spoke with an executive admin named Liz who said she'd call me back after speaking with the routing office; she did not call back and they did not show.

Extended service plans

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, August 02, 2010

This is why I never buy extended service plans on major appliances.   Once the company has your money, they don't have much incentive to make you happy.  If you were paying for service, they probably would have showed up the first time.

Warranty Service

AUTHOR: IntheKnow - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, August 02, 2010

Your air conditioner/heat pump most likely has a 1 year full warranty, 5 years on the sealed system.  If the brand is GE, the most of the critical parts are covered for 5 years as well.  If your brand is Friedrich, this also has a strong warranty.  You might want to check that Sears maintenance plan you purchased as to what you actually purchased.  You might just be getting "sealed system" coverage in years 6-10.  In that case, you were ripped off.  Your Sears "Blue Crew" sales rep certainly has a vested interest in confusing you so he/she can sell the extended plan.

If it is the sealed system, it is under warranty regardless of the brand.  Summer is the height of the refrigeration season.  This is a warranty call.  The local service company (Sears owns A&E) stills get paid by Sears.  Warranty service is not a money maker though.

Also, any indication of nastiness on the phone would indicate a potential "tough" customer and they might have the inclination to put you on the back burner.

If it is the sealed system, there are other service companies that are authorized to fix your unit.  If not the sealed system, you would be responsible for labor and trip charges.

Sears has an online service community; I've seen managers respond in a positive way.  Check it out.
