I purchased a sleep number bed in the select comfort store in fort worth texas. the salesman was very nice and helpful, he even gave me a $200 discount. The advertisements as well as the salesman and corporate customer service state that there is a 30 day in home gurantee.
After a few nights on the bed my wife and I were not sleeping well and to be frank the bed was uncomfortable. I called the store and was told to give it a few days and tru different numbers. My wife and I were still uncomfortable so I called back and this is where the fun begins.
The store Manager stated: "The 30 day trial does not apply to you because you received a discount"
Nice of the salesman to give me a discount, i assume that by discounting the bed he protectes his commission and sale from returns.
Bottom line, i have a horrendiousely uncomfortable bed that cost me 3 grand and no recourse with the company.
I would investigate the company and get the 30 day trial in writing. My opinion
Buyer beware

WHAT DID CUSTOMER SERVICE SAY?

I am an employee of Select Comfort and my opinions do not reflect the company.
What did customer service say? The store can not do anything for you. Your 30 day trial has nothing to do with the discount on the bed. Select Comfort has over 480 stores. Unfortunately we are going to have some bad apples who spoil the bunch. This is true in any industry.
You can review our return procedure at our website or call just Customer Service in with questions.

I am Customer service rep At select comfort and a discount does not void your warrent and if having issue with back achs is a just a quick call to customer service for suggustions. the stores are not aware of the more resourse we have then them.

A DISCOUNT DOES NOT VOID YOUR COMFORT TRIAL!

Do you believe everything everyone tells you? Sue them! You are entitled to a comfort exchange regardless if you negotiated a discount. Unless it is clearly stated on your invoice that it is "SOLD AS IS WITHOUT A WARRANTY" you are entitled to a 30 day comfort exchange.
Start documenting everything so you don't run out of time. Call Select Comfort directly, go up the ladder to the top and if that doesn't fix it, file a report with the BBB and take them to court.

I also found bed to be uncomfortable, caused me backaches

I purchased "extended queen" size Sleep number bed in February 2003. The salesman told us that regular queen size sheets, with deep pockets, would fit. Not true! We had to buy king size sheets, which were too large. I thought this bed would provide better spinal support for me, as I have mild scoliosis. Not even close. The air provided little to no support, and yes I tried several settings, from 40 to 75. I finally settled on 45. The main problem with this bed is that if the two sides are set at different numbers (especially if a large difference), there will be a gap in between, in the middle of the bed. I ended up rolling in to the gap during the night, with half my body on my side of the bed, and the other half in the gap. Or, I would have half my body on my side, and the other half on my husband's side which was set at 75. So I would be on a "hill" and my body would be half up and half down which caused me to wake up with a stiff neck or a sore back. This bed must have both sides set exactly the same! It was a horrible bed and I now warn everyone I know not to buy one.

I think one brand is "Tempur Pedic". For example, Sam's sells a 3"-thick Queen-size for $130. This may... or may not.... solve your problem. But a $3000 problem is worth a few attempts at a solution.
The 30-day return gig you will have to investigate, i.e. does their WRITTEN 30-day return policy stipulate no return is permitted if a discount was given? If not, try small-claims court.
