I was misled into believing that I was signing up for a lease to own after 1 year plan. After 1 year of owning this device, I threw it away because it was outdated assuming I was about to pay it off. I was wrong, I got a message a few months later saying I owed hundreds of dollars and my account was about to go to collections. The payments kept coming even after the one year. I tried contacting the company. I called multiple times and nobody in customer service had any idea what I was telling g them or what to do. Finally someone told me to email a letter explaining the situation and they would tell me what to do. At one point they said I have to file a police report for a lost device. I'm still stuck making payments and have paid for the device many times over. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with and it has taken up far too large a part of my life.

What does the lease say?

AUTHOR: FloridaNative - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Did you read the lease before you signed it?  It gives all the terms and conditions.  I have not seen your lease, but I assume you have it.  Take a look at it again and see what the terms are for terminating the lease.  If you don't understand it, take it to an attorney. Throwing away the item during your lease doesn't terminate the lease.

Next time, read it before you sign. By the way, leasing something is generally the most expensive way to buy something.  The payments are artificially low, but they are usually for a very long time.  Never just take the word of the sales rep that is trying to sell you the item.  They have a vested interest in having you sign the document. Protect yourself.  Hire an attorney to read the lease or purchase agreement before you sign anything.
