SmiONE Card SmiONE Card fees price gouging San Antonio Texas

I was inadvertantly sent the SmiONE Card for my Texas Child Support payment instead of a paper check or direct deposit. Texas single moms beware. This company's fees are fleecing parents with exhorbitant fees - all Texas sanctioned. Thanks Austin! Great job for those kids who need food and clothing. You are letting Bancorp make money one the backs of children and single moms with fees.

Their marketing materials pitch this as a credit/debit card to be used to make purchases - calling out the card as perfect for those who do not have bank accounts. The only folks I know of who don't use banks are those who use check cashing services - the perfect counterpart to the SmiONE card.

$1.50 per Point of Purchase Sale

$1.50 per ATM withdrawal

$2.00 for a paper statement

Imagine the percantages of those dad's hard-earned money going into the pockets of Bancorp and SmiONE every time a mom visits the grocery store for her family and pays the $1.50 fee. Or needs cash and pays both the out-of-network fee for the ATM and the regular transaction fee. 

To make matters worse, the card is the default method of payment for Texas - if you do not provide a response to their direct deposit request you get the card.

This makes me wonder what lobbyist or what expense account 3-Michelin star dinner this deal was done on.

Too bad The State of Texas does not own credit card company, maybe we would be in better shape.
