I RECEIVED AN OFFER IN THE MAIL FROM THIS MAGAZINE FOR TWO FREE ISSUES AND NO SUSCRIPTION OR CANCELLATION REQUIRED. NO COMMITMENTS NEITHER. THE OFFER STATED IF YOU DON'T RETURN THE BILL WITH THE PAYMENT WE JUST CANCEL THE SUBSCRIPTION NO STRINGS ATTACHED.

I KEEP RECEIVING THREATENING LETTERS FROM A MEMBERSHIP NOT PAID. IF PAYMENT IS NOT MADE, YOUR ACCOUNT "MAY BE" TURNED OVER TO AN OUTSIDE COLLECTION AGENCY FOR WHATEVER "STEPS" THEY DEEM NECESSARY TO "EFFECT" PAYMENT. VERY AMBIGIUOS RIGHT? WELL IT'S REALLY VERY ANOYING WHEN YOU RECEIVE LETTER AFTER LETTER AND YOU SEND THEM BACK TO THEM TELLING THEM YOU DON'T WANT ANY SUBSCRIPTIONS. VERY TRICKY STRATEGY. MOST PEOPLE WOULD PAY TO GET THEM OFF YOU BACK. PLEASE DON'T. COMPLAIN WITH THE RIGHT PARTIES.

We have been members for a few years and the Smithsonian NEVER seemed to operate with us as you have described. And the membership is $19 a year- not a budget buster.

SmithsonianStore.com has nice items in their "store". As members we get 10% off on regular and sale items, plus notifications of sales and, sometimes, we also get "additional-discount coupon" offers.

Furniture sale items can be very reasonable such as a quite-nice 24" Marquetry table for $55 net or an Iris Tiffany lamp for $210 net, and delivery has always been prompt with all items being as described.

Maybe someone at SmithsonianStore.com or at their 1.800.322.0344 telephone number can help you.
