What is this "tune up" you speak of?

So, what services did you have in mind when you requested this "tune up"? Whenever a mechanic hears someone request that, it's like waving a flag that says "Sell me some expensive spark plugs".
Not sure how old you are, but modern vehicles have computer controlled fuel and ignition systems. Those computers adjust the engine automatically, so there is no need to make the adjustments that were formerly known as a "tune up" (i.e. points, timing, dwell, idle...). The only remnant of what was called a "tune up" is the spark plug change.
If you don't want to change the plugs yourself, you have to pay someone else to do it. On a lot of cars with limited access, $149 is actually a reasonable price.
