This is a small business loyalty program.  You use SpotOn to provide rewards to frequent shoppers.  You use SpotOn's tablet for internet access in your business.  You have a monthly fee of $50+.  Customers can easily abuse this incentive program because it does not run through the business's POS system.  Customer abuse is problem #1.  The second problem comes when you attempt to cancel the program (which you will).  They expect the merchant to return the tablet at the merchant's expense or they will continue to charge the merchant the monthly fee.  SpotOn refuses to have a representative stop by to retrieve the tablet or to pay for the postage.  This is not stated in their agreement.

If the merchant is willing to pay the postage to return the tablet (I am not willing to incur this expense on their behalf), SpotOn will claim the tablet damaged and charge the merchant 5X the value of the equipment. Reputable companies make arrangements and/or pay for the return of their equipment.  When or if you refuse to pay the return postage, SpotOn turns your account over to a collection agency in lieu of the $6 it would cost them to retrieve their equipment.

Addressing Your Concerns

AUTHOR: Teresa - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Hi there. We're sorry to hear that things didn't go as expected. I want to make sure we look into this and address all of your issues, can you give me a call and tell me a little more about what happened? I can be reached at 877-814-4102 x 453.

In preparation for our chat, it might be helpful to dig up the SpotOn Terms or Service. Every business that signs up with SpotOn agrees to a Terms of Service (I'd be happy to send you another copy,  just let me know).  It explains how to cancel, and does state that the business is responsible for returning the equipment to close the account. Damaged equipment fees are also addressed; it states that a fee is only applied if the equipment arrives in an unusable state. Additionally, it states that third party collections agencies can get involved, but only are only involved if the equipment is not returned after multiple attempts.

I hope that helps clear some things up. Give me a ring when you get a few moments and we can chat more.
Thank you,
Teresa
