STAPLES Rebate $30.00 Rebate denied South Bend Indiana

I will try to make it short. I bought the MX3000 cordless keyboard and mouse set at a sale price of $79.99 (normal $99.99). Plus it came with a $30.00 rebate. I did the rebate submision on-line. I entered ALL information their rebate web site requested. I got a confirmation showing ALL that information. The next week I got an e-mail saying: "Unfortunately, the requirements for the promotion(s) were not met, and your rebate submission(s) were invalidated for the following reason(s): Invalid UPC Number".

But I was never asked for it. The keyboard and mouse were still in the sealed box so I took it back. I took with me prints of my confirmation, and the e-mails I got from Staples. The lady said "you always have to give them the UPC number". Ha, but it didn't ask me for it!. Maybe she was just trying to help but she wasn't. What got me upset was the 14 day return policy on computer peripherals. I had been already over 2 weeks since I bought the keyboard. I was able to return it with no problem, except that the lady insisted that I had done something wrong. I have heard that sometimes they think after you used a product you liked it so much, you won't care about not getting the rebate. Maybe it was an actual error from their system, but error or not, I am getting tired of rebates and begging for them.
