On November 26 2005 at about 11:45am me and my nephew went to a Subway Sandwich Shop. I walked in the door and noticed only one employee talking on a cell phone. She ignored me and kept talking. There were no customers in the store at this time.

After a few minutes the employee motions for someone in the back and keeps talking on the phone. A guy takes my order. I place an order for a tuna salad. The salad is made a sealed. The girl on the phone finally hangs up after two more customers come in.

She tells the guy making my order that he forgot to put turkey on my salad. I explained that I ordered Tuna. He then notices he forgot the tuna. He walks to the cooler(since no tuna was on the make line) and comes back with tuna. The lid is sealed on the salad again.

I request more tuna on the salad because he put 2 tiny portions on it. The employee pushes my salad out of the way and begins making sandwiches for two customers behind me. I then ask the employee if he forgot about my salad, he said no.

I explain that I was here way before the other two customers. He then adds the extra tuna to my sandwich takes my money and sets the salad on the counter saying nothing. He goes back to making the other customers sandwich.

The two employees were hispanic as were the two customers. This is a clear case of discrimination and terrible service. As for Subway, they need to better train empoyees. I will not return to a Subway in a long time.

Work Conduct Nicole

Nicole, I worked at a fast food place for 5 years . I got yelled at sometimes, people were rude, and even had food thrown at us by a customer. In 5 years I was never rude and never discriminated against any customer. In my line of work the CUSTOMER is always right. If you can not control your people skills then you should no work with the public.

One More Thing

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 07, 2006

I just went back over this report, and I realized I forgot to give a suggestion!

Jerry, on the bag that your sandwichs come in, there is a 1800 number. That is the number to the Corporate Center. They are the "Subway Gods," they control everything. If you truly believe it was deliberate discrimination, call them and file a complaint. I would suggest, however, that you deal with the store manager or owner first. Call the store and ask for the manager or owner and try to get resolution that way, and if you cannot, go to corporate.

Also, for those who feel it is necessary to complain that Subways are not all uniform, please understand: there are several "regions" in this country (I am in the "alaska" region). Each region gets together and votes on what new items to bring to the stores. This means that two Subways five blocks from each other may be in different "regions" and therefore have different sandwichs, ingredients, breads and cheeses. I wish they did it differently, but for Alaska, it has to be this way.

For instance, we cannot get provolone cheese where I live. Our shipper wont send it. Don't know why, they just wont. So our "region" does not get any sandwichs that require it. I know this is way more than any of you care to know about your favorite sandwich shop.

Oh, and the stamp program. Its over. It sucks, but that is the fact. They (corporate) ended it due to extreme fraud in the "lower 48." While some stores are still accepting them, the mass majority has stopped since acceptance means a major loss in profits for the store. Also, stores caught (by inspectors) accepting the stamps, or points cards, risk being closed. If you want the program back, I URGE you to call the corporate number on your sandwich bag and to use your wallet to vote.

Again, Jerry, I am sorry this happened to you and I hope it does not discourage you from coming back to Subway. Not every store is the same.

I wish I was

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 06, 2006

Ken, I wish I was exaggerating, but sadly no. Take tonight, for instance. I worked a short shift during our "down time" I personally served maybe 30 customers. I went out with my normal smile and was in a fabulous mood. I got screamed at by half for "not having the right stuff" (mind you this is stuff we never have such as mushrooms the new steak sandwich the new garlic bread ect), ignored by many, complained to by the rest. I kid you not.I have had, in my 8 months there, maybe..MAYBE.. four decent customers, and my standards are not that high. But regardless, I treat them all with the respect I would want to recieve.

C'mon, Nicole...

....4-500 customers a day, ALL (my emphasis) rude, etc, etc...

I work in an environment that sees me come in contact with about that many people in a day, and if 4 or 5 (about 1%) are rude or surly, it's a lot. Normally, I can go the day and perhaps see one or two who have their mouth on upside-down.

Please don't exaggerate to bolster your position...it only weakens it.

Good luck in your studies.

An answer for why you only got 2 small scoops.

AUTHOR: Leticia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 06, 2006

I love subway's tuna, and I many times have order the 6 inch tuna sub.

They only put 2 scoops of tuna onto a 6 inch sub, and since they same amount of meat on a salad as they do a 6 inch sub, maybe that will explain why he only put on 2 scoops.

Also I have never been in a subway where they didn't put it down the line to get the other customer's orders. And then move down and ask what I would like or even just so that I could pay.

The way we work

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 05, 2006

Ok so here I go....

I currently am working through college as a "sandwich artist" for Subway. Here is the way my store works:

I start a sandwich/salad/wrap by placing meat and cheese on it. Then I push it down the line and start the next persons sandwich/salad/wrap until the line is all started. I then go and start doing veggies on all of them. I then ring them all up. The reason we do it this way is to save gloves. If I have to do a full order at a time I have to change my gloves and wash my hands after each sandwich/salad/wrap which wastes more time.

As for the talking on the phone, inexcusable unless it was some sort of emergency at the store. I know, personally, our manager does not work shifts so, say, someone does not show up, I have to call her. That call will, and DOES take precendence over an order because if no one comes in we can't keep the store open. However, I would have at least acknowledged you.

Just an FYI: I know our side (the employees) can be rude sometimes. But imagine dealing with 4-500 customers a day all complaining and being rude and belittling you. You would not be in a good mood either. So when you go into any restraunt or store, smile and be kind and patient and your service will be better.

discrimination

I walked into a kosher deli and placed my order. Suddenly, two individuals walked in and the man at the counter waited on them first, moving my order to the side. I know this happened because I was wearing a turban..DISCRIMINATION!!

The following week, I left my turban home, but mistakenly walked into an Arabic meat market. BIG MISTAKE! I was repeatedly passed by and was DISCRIMINATED against for being tubanless.

Last month I went to McDonalds, and upon complaining about a greenish tint to my burger, I was informed that it was ST Patrick's day! Again, I was discriminated against as I was not IRISH!

I decided my best bet was to eat at home, but my wife always serves my daughters first, leaving nothing for me! Sex Discrimination!!

Guess I'll just have to go on a diet and suffer discrimination from our overweight society.

It's amazing how many parents send their kid's out to work without teaching them to respect others.

I guess it's up to the employers to teach everyone's kids proper morals and respect towards others.

Subway Discrimination

AUTHOR: Buddy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2005

When I lived in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California, this happened all the time. If there were Hispanic people working behind a counter and Hispanic customers came in behind you, the non-Hispanic was shoved aside and the Hispanic people waited on first. This happened time and time again. I protested with my wallet -- never went back, and wrote a letter to the manager/owner explaining why.
