I ordered a seafood/crab sandwich for lunch from Subway in Burlingame, California and it sent me to the emergency room twice in one day. The sandwich got me so sick that I was vomiting excessively which later turned into bloody diarrhea.

I called Subway up to warn them about the bad seafood. The lady working there proceeded to say after I told her that their food made me ill. She said, "Sweety you don't have food poisoning, sounds like the stomach flu to me." She proceeded to say that they made the seafood/crab two times a day and that it sells really fast. She said I was wrong about what sickness I had.

The emergency room doctor told me that I got bacterial gastroenteritis caused by food poisoning. Not only did the female subway employee play doctor but she was down right rude and lied about selling a seafood sandwich earlier that day. I had called at 9am and who eats Subway sandwiches that early in the morning.

I tried calling the headquarters but keep getting kicked into voicemail in which no one has yet returned my call. It's easy to lose weight with Subway sandwiches because they poison you with sandwiches that are bacteria laden which cause you to lose weight in a sick manner.

Subway was reported to Health Dept Immediately

AUTHOR: Nancy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 30, 2003

I reported Subway to the Department of Health immediately. I didn't want this to happen to anyone else. I have gotten several calls from Subway, saying that they would give me free food if I went back there as an appreciation. I will never go back there again and have told friends and family never to eat there either. I told the owner of the particular Subway Shop of their suspect food. The owner repeated what the employee said to me which was they make two batches of the seafood/crab a day and that each batch is about a pound and they sold it out and didn't get any other customers calls about getting ill. A friend of mine who owns her own restaurant said that is a tactic that bad restaurants will do. They will deny everything and mention that no one else is sick and will pretty much accuse the customer of lying.

Don't bother calling the restaurant, call the health dept. right away!

AUTHOR: Tim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 29, 2003

I should start this off by saying that the person you spoke to at Subway had no right to diagnose your condition over the phone. However, as someone who worked in restaurants for years and has gone through countless health dept. training programs, I know first hand that very few reports of foodborne illnesses are ever actually found to have resulted from where the consumer thought. Often it is in fact the case that someone who feels as though they got food poisining actually does have a stomach flu, with vomiting triggered by the meal in question. Keep in mind that all forms of foodborne illness take a minimum of two hours, and usually around 24 hours, before symptoms appear.

Like I said, however, the Subway worker had no right to decide what, in fact, was wrong with you. Nor could he or she have done anything about it. If you ever feel that you have been recieved a foodborne illness from a restaurant, contact your local health department immediately and they will dispatch someone to the site for a "surprise" inspection.

Did you notify the Health Dept?

AUTHOR: Robin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 27, 2003

I hope you or your Dr. notified the local Health Department; they do investigate reports. Sometimes restaurants will skate really close to the edge on time limits to keep food, the proper temperatures to keep food; whatever it takes to save them a buck. And they will never admit it. The health dept will go in and make sure that the rules are being followed; if not, they get written up and even fined in some cases.
