System Security Pop up saying virus in computer every 3 minutes, bought their program, the nex day icon dissapeared Internet

I was in the computer, and every 3 minutes a pop-up saying that I had a virus came up. I then decided to purchase the program. They send me the number that I need to put in order to install the program, but I did not need it. Once I bought the program, I never got the messages again. I had their logo on the icons, but a couple of days later, I went to do an update, and when I clicked on it, it dissapeared. When I went to input the numbers they had originally given me to load the program, that's when I saw the reports other people were giving about this company having ripped them off.
