Service at local fast-food resturants has been increasingly bad in the Memphis area since I moved here seven months ago. Today I experienced the worst service I have EVER had from anywhere.

I was sent to Taco Bell to pick up lunch for my office. I had orders for four people and they had all ordered one of the "value meals" or whatever Taco Bell named them. I have always spent more time then needed at this particular resturant because of slow service. And sometimes they would run out of necessary stuff like nacho cheese or taco shells. Knowing that this was a regular occurance I prepared myself. I didn't prepare myself however for absolute disregard for customer service exemplified by the Manager, Patricia.

I was about to make my order when the girl taking my order asked me if I could come inside and place my order. Asking why, she replied that her manager said that they were on a timer and that they couldn't take large orders at the drive-thru. Finding this funny that they were on a time considering that they are the slowest Taco Bell I have ever been too; I told her that I could get out of the drive way (I was blocked in by other cars) and I told her to take my order anyway. After repeating my order a few times. I drove to the window and received my order in an amazingly fast time (for that branch). But I noticed that I was missing my fourth drink.

That's when "Patricia" opened the window and instructed me to pull aside and come inside if their was a problem. I told her that I was missing a drink and she informed me that they were not able to take another order at the window. I was not making another order I was trying to receive the correct amount of drinks I had PAID for. But she refused to return to the window.

I drove away declaring to never get anything from Taco Bell ever again. Which isn't hard because it's not exactly Wolfgang Puck!

I went to the taco bell website and found that my only way pf contacting the company is through the internet (useless) or by phone (more so useless). I hope this website will actaully pass this on to the corporate offices who can handle this.

I just want it stated for the record that the manager, Patricia who is supposed to be the one you turn too with a problem with your order; showed not a care in the world about the bad example she was setting for her co-workers and an example should be made of HER by the TACO BELL CORP.

#10 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Not business as usual for THIS employee

AUTHOR: Diana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 15, 2004

Well, to be honest, if you could read correctly, you would see where *I* said that I was always on top of things, making sure that once my store got low on something, I made sure I had backups ready to go.

Obviously this Store Manager did not.

The only reason I even wrote that rebuttal is because that person claimed Taco Bell to be racist and in the same sentence said they overcharged her, and clearly neither happened. You, for not reading throughly, are just as ignorant (to clarify....IGNORANT means unintelligent, not rude.)

I don't believe you had a valid reason to complain.

I agree with the rebuttals to this report. I don't work in the fast food industry, but as a customer, I would never attempt to go through a drive thru and make four separate orders. I believe that you are the one who is being rude and inconsiderate in this situation. You should think about the employees that are waiting on you and the people who are waiting behind you in line at the drive thru. I hope you take my comment and the comments from others and learn how to treat people who are only trying to do their jobs.

Wait a minute! This should be business as usual for you!

"You must take into consideration that lunchtime is a busy time for ANY fast food restaurant. Mistakes happen, people get rushed, and when they have customers screaming at them to hurry, it doesn't make things any easier on them."

That's their job! That's business as usual.

"If it was lunchtime, it's not hard to run out of anything"

d**n poor planning then. You would hope that you would have fixed your process after the second day or so.

Sounds like you go into each day merely winging it, and therefore continually makes thesmae mistakes.

Blowing it WAY out of proportion

AUTHOR: Diana - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 14, 2004

It is a fact that most of us can't exactly call "Fast Food" just that anymore. But what I am finding humor in here, is that you claim they are "racially discriminating" in the description of your complaint, when NOT ONCE did I read anything remotely racist. Nor did I see anything about them overcharging you. So they forgot a drink...how is that overcharging? Did you pay for extra food that you did not receive? If so, you never expressed that.

I in fact used to manage a Taco Bell location, and we tried our hardest to deliver orders in less than 60 seconds. However, you had a particularly large order (serving 4 people value meals can consist of anywhere from 8-12 tacos, plus any other items, like a quesadilla, which does take some time on the grill). You said it was lunch, did you not? You must take into consideration that lunchtime is a busy time for ANY fast food restaurant. Mistakes happen, people get rushed, and when they have customers screaming at them to hurry, it doesn't make things any easier on them. If it was lunchtime, it's not hard to run out of anything (although they probably didn't run out, their taco shells were probably being fried at the time). However, their manager should always be on top of what is running low and make sure that "running out" of anything doesn't happen. I know that's how I was.

Again, your complaints about Taco Bell being racist and about them "overcharging" you, in my eyes, are totally invalid, and I think it's pathetic that anyone takes a simple matter like "forgetting a soft drink" and turns it into a racist issue. No company, be it fast food or a BMW dealership wants a customer like that.

#4 UPDATE Employee

multiple orders

AUTHOR: Ginger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 09, 2004

As for having multiple orders, it is always considerate to come inside to place those orders. The location i work at, we pride ourselves in being one of the fastest stores in the city. We never ask a customer to come in to place an order because we feel that is rude. But as said in prior reports, each and every taco bell is completely different.
