I had a terrible experience with Texas Fair Plan and then I decided to google there name and read all the complaints here online and I was surprised that many people have filed complaints.  Google Texas Fair Plan Complaints.  They denied my claim because they said it was wind driven rain and they did not cover it. That my home had to much wear and tear.  I thought to myself well why insure my home in the first place if they felt this way, also I thought, they did not tell me this when I was making payments to them and I feel they should have sent an inspector the first month at least to tell me this. They kept accepting my money. When I filed a claim they told me this. The rep there also told me alot of roof leak claims where denied I was not the only one. I felt humiliated.

Just fair warning about the Texas Fair Plan.  They insure in Texas in South Texas Hurricane and Tropical Storm  prone areas.  Hurricanes and tropical storms produce heavy wind and wind driven rain. They say they DO NOT cover WIND DRIVEN RAIN.  I see now why there are quiet a few other complaints about them.  But after denying my claim the claims agent was nice and indicated OH, you better do something about all that water coming in, it can cause mold. Wow, how nice.

One additional VERY IMPORTANT information

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

When I asked the man in the office at Texas Fair Plan and he was like, second in charge of the claims department, the main man was not in. I asked him why all the complaints about Texas Fair Plan and he immediately said this and I feel Texas residents need to take note of.

He said, " Well those are all probrably hurricane Ike claims."  Wow I was so flabber gasted I laughed and missed the second part of his dissertation. Which went something like this,  " You see a hurricane wind diminishes 30 to 50 miles inland."

Wow.  After my experience I thought wow, my heart went out to those hurricane Ike claims that were denied.  Wow.

I immediately decided to cancel my policy at that time.

Pay close attention to what I have written, its real important if you live in a hurricane area in Texas.

All of this is my personal opinion only and my experience with them.

To further humiliation they photograghed my bed in disarray and my roomate

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

Something else that really bothered me when the claims adjuster came to my home is they photographed my roomate and she had nothing to do with the claim and my bed in disaray, which had nothing to do with the claim. The adjuster was introduced by myself and knew I was the claiment. When I asked the representative at Texas Fair Plan why this was done, it does not have anything to do with the water leakage from the roof, he said, " well she's living there and we insure the property so we can photograph her, in case an injury occurs on the property."  He made no comment as to why my bed was photographed in disaray. I personally feel, that the adjuster came in with an attitude viewing me the claiment as an adversary.  The whole experience was humiliating for me. Very humilating. Photographing my roomate and my bed to me was un-called for when the adjuster should have focused on the damage in my opinion. Some of my damage was pre-existing but additional water leakage occurred and they denied the claim as wind driven rain which they do not cover.  The adjuster walked on my roof and he was a stout man and made a lot of noise when he walked on it. It is a metal roof and instead of placing boards down as to not do any further damage, he just walked all over it, leaving a huge indentation dent in it which a contracter luckily got out by hitting it with his fist and it popped back up out.

The adjuster left without telling me about the indentation he had left in my roof either.

I called the company and spoke with a representative there after my claim was denied and he said wind driven rain was NOT covered.  After one representative said, " your roof has rust on it and deterioration, we definitely want cover that, but the adjuster says he could not find an opening in my roof, so it was wind driven rain NOT covered by the Texas Fair Plan Policy.

Another representative there at the Texas fair plan I asked him why so many hurricane Ike complaints  he said a hurricane will diminsh hurricane force winds 30 to 50 miles inland and went on to say something else , my attention was drawn away a moment and I missed the point he was making.  I just pointed out to him I had read complaints about Texas Fair Plan.

I pointed out to the representative, we get alot of tropical storms and hurricanes in Texas and they produce wind driven rain. I personally don't understand why they offer insurance to people in hurricane prone areas because much of the damage is wind driven rain which they have told me they will NOT COVER.

I personally feel that they looked at me the claiment as an adversary from the get go, taking a photograph of my roomate and my bed. Just did'nt make sense to me, when the adjusters attention should have been focused on the damage. He did take pictures of the damage but my roomate and my bed that just in my opinion was not right.

Humiliating experience.  I just felt like I was treated as an adversary through the whole experience.

I asked for my money back and he referred me to my agent to send a cancellation notice which I have.
