This site advertised such low prices for two different digital cameras we were planning on purchasing, a phone call was necessary to determine if the cameras were new or refurbished.
I called several times and talked to both the order department and customer service. On each call, I was assured these cameras were new, not refurbished. The men who answered the phone had similar voices and I suspected I was talking to only 2 or 3 different people. The men were all impatient, abrubt some outright rude and some hung up on me when I asked further questions about warranties or how they could sell the cameras at so low a price. The last 2 times I called, I said I had been hung up on, please do not hang up or transfer me. I was then given the same line, they were a wholesaler and purchased in huge quantities and contrary to the website the 7 day return policy started after I received the camera not when the order was placed.
We decided to try to order phone in the order. The sales person was again rude, hostile and wanted to sell us many extras we had no interest in purchasing. I hung up on him this time and decided to see what happened if we ordered online.
After the order was placed, we were required to telephone in the order to "confirm" it. On this telephone call, for the first time, I was asked why I was purchasing refurbished cameras instead of new? When I told the person that 5 previous people had told me the cameras were new, not refurbished, he said he didn't say that and there were 500 people answering calls. When I persisted, he transferred me and the next person hung up after an exasperated noice. I called back and cancelled the order. Before I had called the company to cancell, the company sent me an email stating the cameras were out of stock and the order was cancelled. We discovered the time discrepancy when we later checked the incoming email.
So far no unauthorized charges have appeared, but we will continue to monitor that.
The prices for the "new" cameras and for every one of the "extras" the company was pushing, were far above the normal prices found on the internet.
If it seems too good to be true, it is.
