Came across your site and figured I would pass along my experiences. In November of 2004, I began preparing for a move from Rockville, MD to Boston, MA. The move, scheduled for December 21, was a simple single apartment move. That said, I could not have had a worse experience, as I sit here now, weeks later in an empty apartment. My belongings are yet to be delivered.

The moving company, The Moving Company, guaranteed the items "on or about the 1st of January", with a maximum 7 day window. After assuring that my items had left Maryland on December 28, I became concerned when the moving company would not return my telephone calls for nearly a week.

Finally, my mother was able to get a return call only to discover that my belonging had never even left the company's warehouse. After days of stalling, I was finally advised that the drivers of my shipment had been arrested the night before their scheduled departure. Offering no apology, the company advised us the shipment would be sent when a driver was available. After approximately 5 days, I was advised the shipment was scheduled for delivery on Sunday, January 9. On Sunday, I was again stalled to the tune of 3-4 more days. This time, truck trouble was the culprit.

I was unable to reach anybody on Sunday or Monday and finally spoke with Doron, the supervisor/dispatcher on Monday. He said my things would be delivered Tuesday, January 11 at 6pm- guaranteed. The movers have again failed to show up. I contacted the driver who called me on Thursday and he said I was not on the schedule for Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. At this point, I have no idea where my things are or when or if they will ever be delivered.

They are also trying to charge me an extra $600 for who knows what since they can't even tell me how much my stuff weighs!

Clearly, this is a total scam. I hope you can pass this information along to other consumers that they might not have to go through what we have been through.

COMPLAINT FROM THE PHANTOM CUSTOMER

AUTHOR: Gai - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 25, 2005

My name is Guy, and I am the owner of The Moving Company, LLC. I would like to respond to the complaint from "Mark" in Annapolis. I am deeply troubled by your allegations, and have done everything in my power to track down this particular move, to no avail. My records indicate that no such move occurred in November 2004. In fact, my records indicate that my company has not moved a customer to Boston, MA in quite some time. If you are able to come forward and produce a contract, credit card bill, cancelled check or any other form of proof that this move occurred, I will gladly REFUND YOUR MONEY DOUBLE and submit a personal apology on this website. With regard to the other allegations in Mark's complaint, they are completly fictional, as no such move ever took place. In addition, none of my employees have ever been arrested.

With regard to the Editor of this website, I am very disappointed with the response I received upon my secretary's inquiry as to why such false allegations are allowed to be posted on your website without any type of verification that the complaint is valid. Your refusal to even investigate the claim invalidates your existence as a forum to be taken seriously. If anybody can make up a name and submit a story to your webiste without any validation on your part, how can any story posted ever be taken seriously? In fact, the very entity that you choose to attack, the Better Business Bureau, investigates its complaints and requires proof that such an incident occurred. Your website states that the Better Business Bureau provides "misleading perception" that they are giving consumer confidence when dealing with a business. How can thoroughly investigating a complaint before giving a business an unsatisfactory rating be a "misleading perception?" It is your website that is misleading, as there is no validation given to your complaints. I ask you to reconsider your decision to publish this complaint against my company without first investigating the matter fully. Your policy states that you will never remove a valid Rip-Off Report. I'm certain that you will find that this report is not valid, and thus remove it from your website. Thank you for your consideration.

#2 UPDATE Employee

Charges unfounded

AUTHOR: Shannon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 24, 2005

A report was recently filed against our company by a Mark in Annapolis, MD who says he was moving from Rockville, MD to Boston, MA. We have not done a move to MA since June of 2003. We recently were threatened by Giant Van Lines/ Chesapeake Movers. They had blindly called us price shopping and at the end of the onversation I referred them to visit your site, movingscam.com and the BBB. They were so angry that 4 men came form their company to threaten us. This why I feel this complaint came from them.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

The BBB claims they are members in good standing!!!

AUTHOR: Sharon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 16, 2005

Mark, you are not the first person to complain of scam moves by the Moving Company. But the BBB says they are members in good standing. They claim to participate in an arbitration program. I suggest you call the BBB on this. At the very least, get them to realize that they are continung to shelter a known scammer and the "pattern of complaints" is continuing. You'll probably get your stuff delivered, too. Tell the BBB that the company is not furninshing you with certified weght tickets as required by federal law.

Then, call the DOT (1-888-DOT-SAFT) and tell them all of this, too. Their license has been revoked twice in two years, including last last year.
