Toysport Toysport and Joel Luz rip-off once again Lawndale California

About 6 months ago I needed a new, used engine for my 85 corolla GT-S. I searched many internet sites and had a fair amount of knowledge about the engine before I started the process. After several phone calls and estimates, I decided to buy from Joel Luz and ToySport. They were fairly close to my area and had an impressive website displaying tons of Toyota engines and Toyota specific parts and knowledge. WHAT A MISTAKE!

I ordered the engine and bought a lot of peripherals to help make the engine swap clean, easy and complete. Joel told me that this engine was one of the cleanest you can find, hand-picked from Japan, and 'that's the best reason to buy from Toysport.' I immediately deposited a check into their account, which I thought was kinda strange, but Joel told me the faster they got the money, the faster they would get to work. This was a Thurs. and they told me the engine would be delivered on Tues.

After this I called the local engine place where my car was and told them an engine was on it's way. The following Friday I got a call from the engine shop saying 'still no engine.' I immediately called Joel and he said he was just about to work on it and would personally deliver it on Tues. That Tues. soon came and went and still no engine. I called Joel again and got the exact same line from the week before. Finally the Friday of the 3rd week, the engine arrived. But the nightmare had only begun.

When the engine arrived I went to the shop to check it out. It was an oily mess and no cleaner than the 160k engine I was having replaced. The front and rear main seals were replaced like I asked, but many of the new belts and hoses I ordered and paid for where no where to be found. And any of the parts such as the used injectors, fuel rails, sensors, wires, manifolds, etc., were not included. Anything that didn't have to be there, wasn't.

We soon found out that the flywheel from my engine, the exact same engine, would not bolt to the crank in the new engine. After several calls to parts places and junkyards not knowing exactly what the hell we were looking for, we eventually found an old rusty flywheel that would bolt on. Turns out the engine from Toysport has a 6 bolt crank from a cheaper version of the same engine design. Who knows what other kinda 4AC or 4AF parts this thing has in it. Of course, the brand new clutch they sent me didn't mount up to any of the flywheel configurations we had, but my old one somehow did, go figure.

After a month long pain in the a*s that cost me twice as much money as it could and should have, my car is back on the road and running fine. When I went into this process I thought I'd spend a little money and get myself a nice replacement engine and all the things that go with it. In the end I feel like I got less than the bare minimum. I'm already thinking about getting another engine and finally replacing all the parts I paid for, and all the Frankenstein parts I never wanted to pay for in the first place.
