I graduated early this year from a 3 year course and immediately started sending out my resume to companies, Transam assocaites were on yahoo hot jobs, so i thought it was ligit. They emailed me and I took their test and they told me if I paid for their software, after a few "group reports" I would be able to test for live work and be paid. I paid them $495 and I can't even use the foot pedal I own, that my school gave me, which is usb and they wanted me to buy their 9-pin foot pedal for $100 which is ridiculous. I dont even see why I need their "software" I did fine when I did their first test. I've tested twice and failed both times after doing almost 4 months of practice files. I even had 2 people Ive known who do medical transcription for a living in their homes, both of them more than 10 years experience, look at the tests Ive taken and the feedback reports from my trainer, say it's ridiculous and how they grade these reports, the most successful transcriptionist in the world couldn't pass these tests. I'm very angry with these people. Ive wasted all this time and my money on them, I even heard of a guy (of course after they suckered me in) who worked for them for 3 years and finally passed the test, did work for months and never got paid for it. I've heard of lots of people who have been in their "training program" for years, even certified medical transcriptionist who have graduated with diplomas to do this for a living. Why do we have to even be in a training program? I hope no one else will fall for this like I have.

I just received an e-mail form this company stating they saw my resume on yahoo hot jobs. I completed their "sample dictation test" and e-mailed it back like they asked. I then got a respond stating if I wanted a job I would have to pay for their special MT Professional Software which costs $495. I knew right then and there something must be wrong because when I clicked on the link where you purchase the software, the web paged looked so made up and plan. Thank God I didn't order anything and first checked out this website! Thank you for reporting this for people like me. I would have spent my last dollars for this job. Thank You so much. God Bless.

Ouch!

I got an e-mail from them this past summer. I had sent out so many applications at that time, I could not even remember if this was one of the employers or not. I responded, taking their test, and of course I qualified.
Lucky for me, I was frequenting the Clark Howard boards at the time, where there was already a thread going on about home business and home employment scams. TransAm told me I could qualify and that I just needed their training software. I responded to TransAm with what I thought was a short, simple question... "And the software will only cost me how much?" I got back a long rambly e-mail about the grrrrrreat job opportunities out there for me after their tutelage. I had to hunt and search for the price, finally digging up that info I asked for... that $495 fee for the software.
I went to the Clark Howard board and told them what happened. Someone who had a friend of a friend who got burnt by them and another who did transcription for a living jumped into the thread. They explained to me the major problem with TransAm. I was skeptical and just ignored TransAm from there on. Your experience along with the testimonies on Clark Howard's boards reassures me that I was right to ignore them and never waste my money on them.
