I received a letter from Treo concerning my account. Treo is responsible for tolls on bridges in the lower mainland of British Columbia. It’s an efficient sounding system that uses sensors to detect when your car crosses the tolled bridges and automatically charges the tolls to your credit card. The letter indicates that I am overdue on my account and owe $110.31 which includes an additional $20.00 for being 90 days past due.

This is the FIRST CONTACT I have ever received from Treo.

I called them and was told that it was up to me to contact them. I asked why I had never been contacted before. I was told that my account said e-mail only. So even though my e-mail address was wrong and they had tried and failed to charge my credit card, I was not contacted. I asked why a letter was not sent when my credit card failed and was told that Treo cannot do that since my account said e-mail only. Yet I was looking at a snail-mail notice that my account was overdue. None of my other accounts are e-mail only; Bank or otherwise.

I phoned the number on the letter and was informed that it is my responsibility to contact them. I do not understand why Treo could not contact me by snail-mail when the e-mail and credit card they had listed for me did not work. Clearly they could have because they are contacting me now via snail-mail.

I have tried to login to Treo. Apparently my e-mail is already registered so I am unable to get into my account.

I have three major complaints.

  1. Why did Treo wait so long to contact me via snail-mail?
  2. Why can’t I logon to my account using my correct e-mail?
  3. Why am I being charged a fee for late payment when I did not know payment was due?

I am perfectly willing to settle my toll charges. It is only the late charges that I am objecting to.
