I went to Tune Up Plus on 1818 N. shepherd to get an oil change. They advertise free brake check on an exterior sign. After my oil check the fella insisted to check out my brakes, since I saw free brake check I didn't disagree.

He then gave me a paper to sign that stated the 19.95 oil change and said to sign it. I asked why, he said I t was for the oil change and to allow me to let him check my brakes. I read it and signed.

After my brakes were checked and it was determined that I needed new ones. I told the guy I would have to come back another day. When I received my bill it stated the price of the oil change AND a 20.00 brake check price!

Just before I blew up, I was told "Oh but the twenty dollars will be deducted once you come back to get the work done on your brakes. Not once, was I told I was being charged twenty dollars.

The service guy had lots of opportunities to do so. The owner, whose business card just reads Fred and who tells me his name is Joe Kahn, did not listen to a thing I said and continued to write the invoice.

I insisted he re-do the invoice, he told me how is he supposed to make any money checking brakes for free. I told him I understood but did not understand how his sign reads free brake check, in addition to not letting me know in advance that there would be a charge. Thereby allowing ME to determine whether or not to have the checking done.

I can only imagine how many people he has done this too. I am very upset because of the practice and not so much the money.

Do you have a copy of what you originaly signed? If not, get one and refer all the information to the division of consumer protection.

However, it is pretty unlikely that you can recieve reimbursement. The shop most likely had you sign a final invoice that authorized the charge.
