I needed to take a long 1-day trip and rented a vehicle from U-Save in Bayonne. I returned the vehicle earlier than expected and parked it right in front of the store. Upon arriving home (Less than 10 blocks away) we realized we left a very expensive/valuable item on the back seat. I called the manager/rental agent, Paul and told him I was on my way back to pick it up, since only 5 minutes had gone by and the vehicle was still parked right in front. He told me he would call me right back, leading me to believe that he was going to go outside and get the item to hold for my return (within a matter of minutes).

He never called me back, and when I called him a few minutes later, he hung up on me. By the time I got to the U-Save store the door was locked and they were closed. When I attempted to call Paul again, knowing he could be in the back office, he answered the phone then hung up on me again. I stopped there the next morning on my way to work and asked him why he hung up on a customer. He was EXTREMELY nasty and wouldn't even let me talk. When I told him that the item had been a special gift and that I needed it returned, knowing he had to have taken it out of the vehicle because it was still parked on the curb when I called, he slapped a business card down on the counter with their corporate office phone number on it and said, "Here, call them and tell them that Paul won't return your expensive item."

I went to the police dept. where I was informed to go there again, and tell Paul that I wanted my valuable item returned by the end of the day otherwise I would file a police report. When I went back there was a woman with him behind the counter (I believe it was his mother). She was even nastier than her son and wouldn't even let me talk.

Their rental agreement states they are not responsible for any items left in their vehicles, but it doesn't give them the right to STEAL anything as soon as the customer exits the vehicle. The rental agreement also states "We EARN the right to serve you every day." Any REPUTABLE business would attempt to return such an item instead of giving the customer a hard time.

Check the Better Business Bureau under U-Save and do yourself a favor.... Go to Enterprise instead.
