Attention all, beware of United American Insurance. The insurance is a full blown policy, but it doesn't cover the way agents market it. It is NOT Major Medical. The home office trains new agents to sugar coat the policies just to make sales. All the home office cares about is their money. The do not care about the customers or the agents. As long as home office is making money, they are happy.
I'm sure you are skeptical because you see this type of stuff all the time from disgruntled employess. Well I was a manager for this company, and where better to get the right info than from an inside source. I was hired in December of 2006. Home office made a mistake and did not send in my application to the state until the first week in January. They had lost some of my paperwork as well. That should have swayed me, but it didn't. So, intead of taking 2 weeks to get a license like I was promised, it took 6 weeks due to home office losing the paperwork. The office I was hired by had copies and proof that the correct paperwork was sent in correctly. This was a home office mistake. It was corrected, and I got licensed.
The next thing I was told is there is very little COLD CALLING. I was new to sales, and didn't know much at this point. I was promised many lead sources that the office would pay for. Needless to say we were provided with few leads. I had to do all of my own cold calling. I had no help at all with this. In addition, I was expected to use my own personal cell phone to do the cold calling, which was never mentioned during the hire process. Anyhow, I pushed through, and did as I was asked.
During training, agents were taught to basically s****.>
What the company doesn't advertise is that their ratings come from their Medicare Supplements. Unfortunately, United American Insurance is the MOST EXPENSIVE company for Medicare Supps. There is no reason for this either. They offer the same benefits as other plans, Just beware of Advantage plans though. Those are a whole other ripoff.
I was a manager, and I was being having a few issues. I had an agent that I did a lot of hard work for. Unfortunately home office messed up once again, and put the agent under a Unit Manager that did not even work there anymore. Home office is in Mckinney, and I work in the Dallas area for them. Can you believe it took them 6 weeks to straighten this out? I work an hour from home office, and it honestly took that long? I didn't get paid for a month and a half, and I still stuck it out and was a team player even though bills were piling up. I then find out I'm up for promotion to get a branch. I was excited. I was told to clear up a few things on my credit, so I did. I kept getting put off for my interview with home office though. Then I find out the company decided to bring a manager in from out of state to take the branch. Wow, I was amazed at how poorly they treat their managers and agents. I had put up with alot, but this broke the camels back. Why is it they couldn't tell me this in the first place?
I am in no way trying to bash the company, but if that's how they treat their managers and agents, how well do they treat clients?? Can you afford for them to not live up to their promises? This is all info for you to think about. I have since left the company, and I work for a great company now. If this company is so great, how did our office go from 30 agents down to 6 licensed agents in just a couple of months? My biggest suggestion is, READ THE FINE PRINT!!! Do not buy a policy without researching it fully before hand. All the company cares about is making money. Make sure you're making the right decision.
READ THE FINE PRINT, AND READ THE POLICY CLOSELY!!!!

josh, i have one question, you stated that in your office you are up front with the coverage and honestly it is good coverage. my question is, what if someone gets cancer with your grat company united american, how would it pay? how would it pay a 350,000 dollar breast cancer bill. how would it pay for over a million dollar lukeymiya bill? so if you are up front with your customers you do tell them that if you get cancer that it will only pay 300.00 for chemo treatments because chemo is done all on an outpatient basis, right?

I worked for United American for a year, what a joke. My husband had a colonoscopy last year that cost 5k at the hospital outpatient.
United American has a $500.00 deductible when surgery is involved, this we knew, what we didn't know is that it only covered 1200.00 because in the outline of coverage it is listed under some throat scope procedure, try calling U.A. and asking them, you may as well ask my cat the cost.
Its a joke and its not good for anyone unless your diabetic or in poor health, then I guess something is better than nothing.

I am an independent florida state licensed insurance agent. Life, Health, and Annuities. I sell tradtional and non-traditonal policies for health insurance. I sell plenty of UA product and have read all the posts from ex-employees to ignorant victims. I am not oligated to any one company. I have many very happy clients with UA policies.
Simply, put All of the victim stories I've read have one thing in common The agent lied. UA does not sell major medical. period. Victims typically didn't read the policy, which if they had, would have also known that they had thirty days to get thier money back. Both are to blame. The FlexGuard policy is designed for people who can't get or afford traditional major medical. The policies are the core product of traditional health insurance. Hospital, medical and surgical. Sold correctly with clear understanding this policy is great. The problem here is the lying and misrepresentations not the company. The policy pays exactly what it is suposed to pay. I sell it as a front runner to a high deductible major medical from anohter company.
Another problem is their are two kinds of agents: Captive(branch) agents and independents like me. Branch agents never get fully trained and often lack real sales skills are typically so hungry they'll say anything. Better understanding on both sides warranted. Agents need to learn to sell properly and clients need to read.

John that is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. I bet you work for the UA marketing department. I worked with United American for a while - but left as soon as I knew enough about the business and the true cost of medical care. The policy is modeled to look like a major medical, which it is far from.
Your "it's not for everybody" statement is just silly. I work for another company now and I am doing GREAT. Far better than I ever did with United American, even when I was still brainwashed to believe that it was a good company. Your statements like, "been in business for 60 years" just shows that you are brainwashed. I work for a company now that has been around for 100 years, but we don't go around touting it because we've got other legs to stand upon. Don't even tell me about the A+ rating either. That has to do with financial capacity to pay claims. If a company is good at overcharging, of course they can pay claims! Especially when the claims liability is so low given the extreme limitations of the policy.
To say that it is "incredible" coverage is just bologna! Compare it to something else, and show me how it is "incredible." Trust me, if you compared it to other companies you will find the coverage with other companies is ALWAYS better, and about the same price, sometimes cheaper, sometimes a little more expensive.
United American is good at stiffing the naive consumer.
I will shut my mouth when you can come in here and fully explain the benefits and limitations of your policy, and a "flagship" policy of two other companies like BC, Aetna, Humana, or United Health and give quotes on each.
But you know what? You can't! You can't without hiding the facts.

In response to the disgruntled employee, I would like to say I love working for United American, and more importantly I love helping out people everyday. Sure the policy has limitations, but what policy doesn't. In our office, we are very up front with the coverage, and honestly it is good coverage. Before I started working there, I did my research, and found the company is not only a great company to work for, but a great company for consumers. They have been in business for over 60 years, and the benefits of the policy are incredible. I read these blogs from time to time, and notice that most of the comments are from employees, and to them I say, maybe this job is not for you, and that's ok. I am sure people who work for blue cross or assurant could say the same things about their policies, but every promise they have made me has come true, and the customers that I support are very happy.
I have used the policy, as I have it on my family, and it paid out like it said it would, and in fact they filed quicker then any other company I have had before. Many people read this website, and some of them get concerned, but if you notice that there are 30+ complaints in the past 5 years, and that is from a company that is one of the leaders in insurance. Also most of those complaints are from employees. If it didnt' work out for you, then move on, as other people in the world are trying to help out the hard working American consumer.
