United Moving Systems quoted us with a fairly reasonable price for a move from NJ to NC. Upon arrival to our house to pack the moving truck, the price had increased by about $4000 to over $5000.
Delivery was 'promised' by June 29th. It is now July 5th. Nothing. I have called their office in Clifton at least 20 times every day. Usually nobody answers, but when they do, it's always just a seceratary who asks for my name and number so someone can call me back. Nothing.
I then asked for their federal tax ID number from the seceratary and she immediately gave me 'Mike's' number, and he has ony told me what I wanted to hear, with no follow-through.
Mike is full of it. He said he would have a truck leave on July 2nd to arrive on the 3rd. Nothing. Same thing with a truck on the 3rd, to arrive on the 4th. Nothing.
My fiancee's wedding things are on the truck, and our wedding is Saturday, July 7. I paid in full upon pickup, and they have my money and my belongings, and nobody who works there seems to care.

This is Really Bad

David, this mover has 30 days from date of pickup to legally deliver your goods. Unfortunately, you didn't choose a reputable mover known for keeping their commitments. As long as they comply with the law (deliver within 30 days), they get no problems with the DOT. As for your bride's wedding dress, I would have her move rather quickly for a replacement dress now; I do not imagine her dress will show by Saturday, given their history.
If your quote in writing indicates a "promise" to deliver before June 29th or anytime before July 7th, you might try small claims for the cost of obtaining another dress for the wedding. If you have nothing in writing, or nothing on the quote indicating the promise to deliver, you might be out of luck trying to recover anything..... The moving industry and its companies enjoy broad federal protections under the Carmack Amendment that prevent customers from recovering much from the company.
I know this doesn't help now, but researching a mover on the internet is pretty valuable - you would not have picked this company if you had done so. You might have paid more to have one of the big companies do the move, but you probably would have had your goods delivered by your promise date, or at least before Saturday.
