Please Help!

I just started my first class at UOP when I came across these reports. I too was misled about the school. My problem is that my schooling is being paid solely by financial aid. My loans and grants have already been disbursed to the school and applied to my account. I want to see about transferring to a different school and don't know how to go about transferring my financial aid.

There was a rebuttal by Donald in CA to Brian in Joplin about filing a new Authorization to Apply funds and I needed to know if I could still do this even though I have just started my first class. I didn't know if I had to wait until after so many classes of if I could do this now and see about another school to be able to transfer and simply pay for my next class on my own.

If anyone can help please respond. I chose to go to school at UOP because of the flexible scheduling, but all of the reports I have read make me feel like I need to find another school.

Thanks!

Auth to Apply

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

Doreen,

First off make sure you print of a copy of the receipts listed under PAYMENT/RECEIPT HISTORY for the disbursed funds. Look for something along these lines:

EFT:09-FEB-2006:FA_SFSL2
EFT:09-FEB-2006:FA_UFSL2
PELLA:02:07-FEB-2006

The first one is a subsidized amount. The second one is an unsubsidized amount. The third one is a Pell amount. This will show you how much money UOP has received on your behalf. Next, log on to the Financial Aid WEB at faw.phoenix.edu.

On the side will be a link that says CORRECTION FORMS. Print out a copy of the AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY form. Fill it out and check off NO to all three questions. Send this in to your Financial Advisor. The school will be forced to send you a check for the money that is left on account. Make sure you compare this to what you have been charged already and the receipts I described above.

Now, in accordance with DOE regulations, you cannot be out of school for more than 29 days between classes. You also will have received this amount depending on the status that you were rated at (Full-time, half time, etc.) You need to make sure that the school you will be going to will be rating you at full time or you may end up having to send some money back.

Once you get that check from UOP, you will be responsible for either continuing on with UOP to complete your annual credit obligation. In your case, you will have to make sure you have enough money to complete that obligation at the other school.

Like Lloyd said, make sure your lender knows that you are switching schools and also ensure that your FAFSA is updated. I wish our school could have kept you as a student but I hope the information that I provided helps you in your educational endeavors.

Good Luck,

Contact your student loan provider

Doreen,

I suggest you contact your student loan provider as your first move to request changes to you loan account. I would also suggest that you complete the class you are presently in so that your student aid is not disrupted. You can change your school dispersing without repercussions if you go through the provider and notify financial aid department at UOP, but do not start the next class.

Select a school you want to stay with, this is very important. Davenport University has a great online course that accepts Sallie Mae (that is if they are your provider.) I personally went to Davenport while on student loan; I also am currently with Northcentral University, ncu.edu. Both are very good online schools. The main point is not to drop any class at this moment. Finish the class that you started at the UOP, and then make the change. You must also change your FAFSA to add your new school and delete UOP.
