Based on a local TV ad in Orange County, CA I called US Fidelis and purchased an extended warranty. Details of the warranty did not arrive for several weeks. When the warranty arrived the details clearly gave them plenty of room to deny a claim. Parts have to be broken for them to pay, in addition to any other delaying tactics they might have. I also had found all the US Fidelis scam stories on the internet.

When I called back within 45 days of 1st purchase I was told to mail the warranty box back to CDWS, in California, who cover the warranty, not US Fidelis. Even after sending it back via certified mail I got the runaround when trying to get a refund. Every person at US Fidelis had a different story or reason why my refund could not be issued.

I contacted the Better Business Bureau in Missouri, via their website and filed a claim. Within a very short time of this claim I got a partial refund from US Fidelius of about half of the money due. Additional emails and contact with the BBB did not resolve the issue.

I contacted my credit card company and was able to get the complete balance refunded, part from US Fidelis and part from Mepco, in Chicago, Ill. After the first payment additional payments were being billed by Mepco. US Fidelis seems to have worked out a way to have all these companies in the picture which complicates getting a refund.

If you keep very accurate records of when you called and who you spoke to it seems you can eventually get your money back, especially if you used a credit card. It took about two months for me and hours of phone calls and mailing packages and letters. It is amazing that this company can run TV ads for a product which is completely worthless. If they really had a good product they would not make cancellation so hard. The day my warranty package showed up at CDWS, the person at that company said they received 52 packages for returned US Fidelis warranties on that day alone.

Contact your attorney general

Dear useembefore

Please notify your attorney general about your problems with this company.
Go to stltoday which is the St. Louis Post Dispatch and search for US Fidelis on their site. Then go to ksdk and kmov and search for US Fidelis and watch the videos. One on of the TV stations (both out of St. Louis) you will see the Missouri Attorney General telling the reporter he advises people to be skeptical of doing business with US Fidelis.

Beware of these insurance contracts

AUTHOR: Useembefore - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 16, 2009

You know the old adage if it sounds too good to be true. I had one of these insurance plans once and found them more trouble than they are worth. Unfortunately for me I bought two contract one for me and one for my mom. With my car about a year after I bought the contract the transmission went out. I thought gee I am glad I have that contract, but, I couldn't prove the transmission oil had been changed per their schedule (the car had only 47K miles) so my claim was denied. In fact to be honest I didn't even know transmission oil needed to be changed. I did take the car for regular oil changes and had receipt that the transmission oil was checked but not changed.

Next my mom had a rear end problem on her car. We heard one blip, when a second one occurred 3 weeks later we took it in for service. They did pay 75% of it but refused to pay the rest because we waited too long after the first "blip",

A year later my A/C went out the total bill was $800 and they paid $500.

Here's the net....over 3 years I had about $3400 of repairs on the two cars, the contracts cost about $1400 and they paid about $1000. The idea sounds great, you make one payment and one call and you're "covered" it just tends not to work that way. They do everything they can to find a way to deny your claim.

After that both policies expired and I didn't renew. I'm not saying they never pay but it was a far cry from the "just take it in and we pay" like the ads say. And you need to read the contract with a fine tooth comb. If they require maintenance you will need detailed records and if you do your own they will likely deny.

My advice find a mechanic you like and save your money rather than buy this type of insurance.

Looking for Info

Hello Everyone,

I'm a student at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, and I'm writing a research paper on the effectiveness of consumer-awareness websites. Specifically, I'm looking at how people can use the site not only as a forum to air grievances but also as a constructive tool used by businesses to help resolve disputes. I would really appreciate any input that anyone would be willing to give.

If anyone would be willing to share his or her experience, I'd be more than willing to listen. Please leave a comment below if you'd be willing to do so.

Thanks a lot!
Kayne
