I've been paying around $250-300 a year for the U. S. Tech support team to keep my computer virus free and up to speed. I had had problems all along with them not finding the 5 licenses I had plunked down over $300 for the first time. They kept wanting me to buy another program for another computer, and I kept telling them that I had 4 more licenses. Finally, I got on the phone with someone who knew how to correct that.
Then they put me on a monthly pay program - 29.95 a month - that's still over $350.00. So I'm expecting great service after I accidently loaded a virus from in upgrade pop-up telling me to upgrade my Adobe Flash player. I bragged to my grown children that I had a service that would clear this up pronto. The first level technician got me a ticket; the second level tech worked on my computer and left me a note saying that he had cleaned up the viruses. I thought I was smart for using that service.
Then I tried to use my computer. The virus was back, even worse than before. I tried to get into the service to recheck my computer, the second level guy could not get in. A senior technician tried several things but my machine was blocked from internet service, so he got bored with the situation and started giving me attitude on the phone.
I took my laptop to the Geek Squad at a nearby Best Buy. As of yesterday, they had found 82 viruses on my computer. Now I've been paying UST to get rid of viruses for a long time and they didn't. They told me that they did, but they didn't. If the problem is very new or very big, they let it go. I don't think I've picked up 82 viruses in a week or two, and I've gone to them almost every month to get the machine cleared.
Beware of these companies that offer superduper deals on computer clean up and repair. It may look good for a while, but eventually it will catch up to you. Oh, they did refund last month's 29.95 charge, but they cost me $160.00 that I had to spend at Best Buy to do the anti-virus work that I thought I had already paid UST to do.
